A History of Referenda in MCCSC

2009

Indiana’s State Legislature significantly reduced funding for public schools, leaving it up to local jurisdictions to fund many school needs.

2010

MCCSC passed its first referendum to fund positions and programs, some that were previously cut by the budget deficit. Funding Covered: Alternative high school programs, experiential learning, extracurriculars, teaching and staff positions, enhanced Professional Learning Communities, world language programs, and STEM programs.

2016

MCCSC passed a referendum in order to renew funding for 2010 referendum items.

2022

MCCSC passed a referendum in order to provide raises to attract and retain high-quality teachers and staff and support special programs. Teachers and salaried staff received a $4,500 base pay increase beginning with the 2022-23 school year. Support staff received $2.25 hourly raises in November 2022, in addition to a 1.5% raise effective January 1, 2023.

2023

MCCSC passed a referendum to pay for unfunded needs that would remove barriers for families. Funding provides families with free or low-cost early learning for 3- and 4-year-olds, free school supplies, and covers fees for Advanced Placement and Career & Technical Education exams, and Dual Credit/Enrollment aligned with college and career pathways.
