Health Services

The Monroe County Community School Corporation values the health and safety of our students. School nursing interventions with students who have acute and/or chronic health concerns improve student health and provide a positive impact on school achievement, attendance, and success. School nurses assist students to develop the skills necessary for successful self-management.  The health services department provides health promotion, disease prevention education, and activities for students, staff, and families. While supporting goals to maintain optimal health and encouraging attitudes conducive to life-long positive health practices, school nurses and their supporting staff effectively impact the community as a whole.

Students are provided with services that help to appraise, protect, and promote their health. Services are designed to ensure that each student is able to access or refer to primary care services. Primary care services can help to control communicable diseases, provide emergency care, and promote healthy habits.

The health services team is composed of health aides, health aides plus (Licensed Practical Nurse), and travel school nurses (Registered Nurse).  A health aide or health aide plus (LPN) are on-site at each school caring for MCCSC students daily and providing valuable information for the school nurse.  A school nurse (RN) travels throughout assigned buildings.  The health aide or health aide plus (LPN) work collaboratively with the registered nurse to provide emergent and routine care for all students.
