Thank you for your patience as we’ve worked to compile information for the return of in-building instruction at North. You should have received an email earlier today asking that you indicate your child’s preference for either in-building or online only instruction, and those responses are due by Monday, August 31, 2020. Knowing how important this decision is for families, we wanted to provide you with further details this afternoon.
The MCCSC School Board recently adopted a phased re-entry plan for students who opt for in-building instruction. The three phases of that plan are as follows:
Phase Red: All students 100% Online
Phase Yellow: In Person students return to school on an alternating-day schedule
OR students remain 100% Online
Phase Green: In Person students return to school five days a week
OR students remain 100% Online
In Person Students
Presently, North students who would like to resume in-building learning can do so in Phase Yellow beginning on Tuesday, September 8. Any student who indicated a preference for five-day instruction or hybrid instruction over the summer will automatically be considered an in-building student unless they change their preference through the form provided above.
Within Phase Yellow, students attend school on alternating days based on their last name. The attached “Bloomington HS North Phase Yellow” document provides specific information on the alternating schedule.
Classes will alternate between alphabetical splits and Maroon/Gold Days throughout Phase Yellow. Students will complete work online via Canvas on days that they are not at North.
An MCCSC committee will meet weekly to determine whether we remain in Phase Yellow or move to another phase based on data benchmarks established by the school corporation.
If MCCSC moves to Phase Green, all in person students will return to North for classes five days a week.
In person students are asked to self-screen their health before coming to school and stay at home if they are exhibiting any of the following symptoms:
-- Fever (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit)
-- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
-- Muscle or body aches
-- New loss of taste or smell
-- Sore throat
-- Nausea or vomiting
Please keep in mind the following items specific to in person students:
-- Students should stay home if they are showing signs of illness.
-- Absences need to be reported to the attendance office (812-349-4704).
-- Students will not be assigned lockers.
-- Students should check Skyward for class room numbers before coming to school on their first Maroon and Gold days.
Online Only Students
Students who choose to learn online only will continue with their studies much as they have up to this point. Teachers will still post weekly agendas and work to Canvas every Monday, and live sessions via Microsoft Teams will be scheduled for direct contact between teachers and students. The only change for online only students will be that their class period times will mirror those of the in-building students. You can review period start and end times in the “Bloomington HS North Phase Yellow” document attached to this message. Additionally, absences need to be reported to the attendance office (812-349-4704) when a student will miss a day of online learning.

Health Department Resources
Attached to this message are two documents from the Indiana State Department of Health, COVID-19 Screening for Parents and Student Guidance for Return to School. These items are provided for your reference, and we ask that you please review them before returning your Cougar to North for classes.
North’s faculty and staff recognize that these have been challenging days for many, but we are committed to doing our best to help all North students grow and learn in a safe environment. We thank you in advance for your continued commitment to these established COVID procedures and for the collective work we share in supporting our students. As always, please reach out to your child’s grade level counselor or administrator if you have any questions or concerns. And remember, it’s great to be a Cougar!
