Congratulations to JaQualon Roberts for being named the 2021 Outstanding Black Leader of Tomorrow

JQ

JaQualon "JQ" Roberts, a sophomore at Bloomington High School North, was the high school male recipient. The individual who nominated Roberts said he was involved with the Monroe County Community School Corp.’s re-entry committee as a student representative. He’s active in the community and aspires to study sports management, sports nutrition or athletic training, with a goal of becoming one of the best players in the NBA. Roberts said he was honored to be selected.

Roberts thanked his mom for always being there for him and teaching him everything he knows. He said she’s his hero and “one of the hardest working people in this world.” He thanked mentors, friends and family and had a message for his peers, encouraging them to stay focused and get their education, acknowledging the added difficulties due to COVID-19.

“You can still be cool while being kind and helping others,” Roberts said. “The world will be a better place if we can work together on our goals and achieve them.”

The City of Bloomington and the Indiana University Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center commemorate National Black History Month with a celebration of the perseverance of Black people across the Diaspora. The 2021 Black History Month celebration theme was “The Show Goes On.''
