MCCSC Receives Electric Bus!

MCCSC receives their first electric bus. This Thomas built bus is the first useable EV bus in the state of Indiana. This is also the first Thomas built conventional DC fast charging electric bus powered by a Proterra powertrain. EV1 is equipped with PV 360 surround view camera system, crash avoidance system, stability control which prevents rollovers, 3 point lap-shoulder seat belts, integrated child seats, and an auto reversing entry door which is the first in the Midwest. This bus emits zero emissions and is the safest bus not only in Indiana but in the Midwest. Once the bus is inspected and approved by the State Police, it will be added into the MCCSC bus route, the plan is for January 4th. This will be the first electric bus in the state of Indiana to run a route with students.

Nathan Oliver, Chris Ciolli, John Kenny, and Adam Terwilliger worked with the IDEM and the VW Mitigation Committee to receive grant funds to help make this possible. The Kerlin Bus mechanics will train and educate the MCCSC mechanics so they will be able to service the EV buses. MCCSC will be receiving two additional EV buses next fall.

Once the driver turns on the turn signal or opens the doors, they will be able to see a 360 view of all sides of the bus. The front camera will also make the bus stop automatically if there is something detected. If the driver is crossing over the road line or tailgating it will vibrate the drivers seats to make them aware.
