April 7th: MCCSC's Update Regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

April 7th, 2020

Hello MCCSC Families,

We miss our students and staff and hope all of our families are staying well!  MCCSC will continue our contingency learning Monday through Thursday. Our teachers, social workers, staff, tech support, and Principals are doing a great job contacting students and families to assist in their needs. We appreciate all their work and efforts assisting in the learning of our students. We recognize families are balancing many needs along with the responsibilities of working with their children. This has caused much stress, hardship and frustration for many families. Each family has unique circumstances; some students are home alone, some do not have internet access, some students are watching siblings as parents must work, some are homeless, some have special needs, and some are doing just fine, but ALL must be considered. As such, a great deal of thought went into making the following decision during this most unprecedented time.

The Governor and State Superintendent have modified the number of required instructional days to 160 or 20 days after April 2nd. The MCCSC meets both the 160-day requirement and 20 days after April 2nd.  As a result, Tuesday, May 5 will be an instructional day with the last day of student day of instruction on Thursday, May 7th.

MCCSC teachers and administrators will spend time in May engaged in professional development and curriculum modification to meet the needs of students when they return in the fall.

Information regarding grading, graduation, returning materials to schools, additional resources for summer learning and summer school with be forthcoming.

Breakfast/lunches will continue through the end of May with the summer meal program beginning in June.

The Foundation of Monroe County Community Schools has begun a COVID-19 donations page that can be found here, please click ”My donation is for *COVID-19 NEED.”

Thank you for your support as we remain flexible and continue the priority of the safety of our students and staff.
