University Elementary Kiwanis K-Kids Supports Community Kitchen and UNICEF

Kiwanis International's motto is serving the children of the world. The Kiwanis Club of South Central Indiana is serving the children of our community.

Currently, there are three branches of the Kiwanis family in MCCSC schools co-sponsored by Kiwanis Club of South Central Indiana and Kiwanis Club of Bloomington. Kiwanis Kids (K-Kids) Club, for elementary school students, is held at University Elementary. The Builders Club, for middle school students, is held at Jackson Creek Middle School Batchelor Middle School.

This year the University Elementary K-Kids Club collected over 800 food items that were donated to the Community Kitchen the week before Thanksgiving Break. Each member of the club participated in collecting, sorting, and counting the food.

Earlier this year, the University Elementary K-Kids Club also held a 'Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF' collection to raise funds for UNICEF. This fundraiser brought in over $250 to support women and infants by providing pregnant women with neonatal tetanus shots.

Their next fundraiser is their annual K-Kids ornament sale. The officers are each researching non-profits in which they would like to raise/donate proceeds from this year's drive.  Officers will present their findings and why they believe their non-profit deserves the proceeds at our next meeting on Tuesday, November 27th.  Members will vote to choose the organization that will receive this year's profits.  Students will also make the ornaments at the meeting on the 27th, and ornaments will go on sale on Monday, December 3rd.

We are proud of you K-Kids!
