The Dr. Martin Luther King Birthday Celebration Commission visited Fairview Elementary for a class session on Thursday, August 27th, from 10-11 a.m. Mr. Joe Emerson shared his experiences living in the Civil Rights era and his experience in context with events that took place during the same era as the story in March One, the graphic novel by John Lewis, Anderson Aydin, and Nate Powell, who will be visiting Bloomington on September 21, 2015. The talk helped to bring the Civil Rights era alive with students by relating the book to the visit of the authors next month. Mr. Emerson and MLK Commission members helped facilitate an interactive Q & A session with the students as well.
