  • National Honor Society Induction Ceremony

     

    Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,
     
    Today, we distributed invitations to students who applied to and were accepted to the National Honor Society. If an invitee was absent today, we delivered invitations through email. Our Induction Ceremony will be this Monday (April 3rd) in the BHSN Library from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. You can find more details in your student's invitation letter.

  • 2023 Scholastic Art and Writing National Award Winner!

    BHSN Senior, Azul Tirado received a National Medal in the 2023 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards!  She earned a National Silver Medal for her piece titled 'Abuelita'.  She will be recognized on June 8th, 2023 at Carnegie Hall...in NEW YORK! More than 100,000 students participated this year and over 300,000 pieces were judged. That means that Azul's work was in the top 1% of all students in the United States!!!!!!!

    50th Anniversary Athletics Nights

    As we get ready to start a new school year, I want to remind you that we are celebrating all year long with 50 years of excellence at Bloomington High School North.

    Our school has a strong history of great students, great staff, and amazing supportive families.

    Here is a schedule for part of our celebration this year through athletics.  Please spread the word that former athletes are invited to attend and be honored at these events.

  • School Smiles 

    The dentist is coming to BHSN on 4/26! The School Smiles on-site dental program provides on-site dental care at school for ALL students that sign up to participate. The dental team will set up inside the school and they accept Medicaid, private insurance, offer self-pay rates and grants through their foundation. You can register now by printing and completing the attached form (available in both English and Spanish) or online at: www.schoolsmiles.com/student-signup with over 100 languages to choose from. If you are unable to print these forms or access the website, your child can pick up a paper copy from the health office. The due date to register is 4/14.

    Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA): 

    Will meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month during Tutorials in Mrs. Provines's room, 212. All students welcome, you do not have to be in athletes to participate. 
     
    You do not need to be an athlete to participate.  We will have a snack, a game and a devotional. If you are interested in leading the devotion, please come talk to Mrs. Provines ASAP. 

    German National Honor Society:

    The Movement Black Excellence Club: Will meet  during tutorial in Mrs. Sweeney's room 609. Join us for snacks, drinks and games. We hope to see you there.

    Drone Club:   Meets Fridays during tutorial in room 30

    The Bring Change to Mind (BC2M): Join us for the Bring Change to Mind tutorial and afterschool meetings. Sign up for Tutorial on Thursday 3/23 for our student led presentations series. Pierre James will share an informative presentation about DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). Afterwards, we will make slime!  Come to the after-school meeting on Thursday 3/30 in room 403 to hear Ava Tilford share ways we can manage stress and anxiety when school gets overwhelming. Afterwards, we will design positive posters to hang up around school. See you there! 
     

    Student Equity Team:  

    FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America): Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for students in Family and Consumer Sciences.   The involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life—planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal communication—necessary in the home and workplace. 

    Habitat for Humanity: There will be a full club Habitat for Humanity meeting during tutorial on Thursday March 23 during tutorial.  Sign up under Mrs. Miller on the tutorial scheduler.   

     

    BuildOn: 

    Do you want to make a positive impact on the world and help people rise out of poverty?  buildOn raises money to help construct schools in developing countries.   We will share information about what the club is about, plan fundraising activities, and share some information about the two schools are club helped build in Nicaragua and Guatemala.  Sign up under Dr. Shelton in the Science Department.  If you are interested but cannot attend on Wednesday, contact Dr. Shelton (ashelton@mccsc.edu). 

    Environmental Club: 

    "Did you know that North has a share cart in the cafeteria? Join the Environmental Club in eliminating food waste! If you have extra food, you can put it on the brown cart located near the lunch line. If anyone wants more food or a snack, they can come pick it up for free! Watch out for some new signs done by BHSN artists!"  

    Math Club:

    Sistahs Who Care:  A social club for all BHSN women of color. We meet every other Friday in Mrs. Cannon's room 607. 

    Here are the dates for the Sistahs Who Care club this semester.  3/10, 3/31, 4/14, 4/28, 5/12.

    Latin Club: Meets on  during tutorial in room 408. All are welcome! 

    Young Democrats and Young Republicans: The callout for the Young Democrats and Young Republicans is during tutorial on  in Mr. Sturgeon, Room 401. Any questions please see Mr. Sturgeon. 

    Civil Rights History Club: Are you passionate about civil rights and social justice issues both past and present? Join the Civil Rights History Club for a call out meeting during Tutorial on  in Room 610. Sign up in the Tutorial Scheduler under “English.” Please see Mrs. DeWitt with any question.

    Theatre Tech Club:  

    For those interested in the backstage and design elements of theatre, there will be a theatre tech club Mondays and Wednesdays every week from 2:45 - 5:00pm. The club meeting will be , in the Auditorium. The club will be led by Steve Krahnke, master carpenter for Constellation Stage and Screen. Contact Mr. Daily in the Blackbox Theatre for more information.  

    Music Honor Society: Tri-M, the music honor society, will have a call-out meeting on . We will discuss the current state of the chapter and membership for anyone interested in joining. 

    International Cougars: Please join International Cougars first meeting this  during tutorial in LGI.  Sign up through Tutorial Scheduler. We will be having fun, snacks, and working towards putting together a great international day! Everybody is welcome! 

    Cougars for Change: Will meet  in Mrs. Fletcher's room 208.

    Spanish Honor Society:
    This past weekend the SHH had a bake sale so that they could meet their goal to provide gifts to Latino/Hispanic children through the City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department – Latino Outreach Holiday Assistance Program.  
     
    INTERACT Club: 
    Interact club brings together young people to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. The Interact Club organizes at least two projects every year, one that helps the school or community and one that promotes international understanding.  If you would like to be a part of BHSN Interact Club, please come to the  meeting this  during tutorial in Mrs. Adams room 26.  Interact has been on a break for a few years so we need to find all new student leadership to run the club!  
     
    The BHSN Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica:
    The BHSN Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is back at work after a 2-year hiatus!!! Felicitaciones a los nuevos miembros de la sociedad: Rougui, Janel, Broc, Sammy, Rena, Gavin, Melissa y Betsy. Estamos súper orgullosos.  
     
    BHSN Black Student Union: Will meet February 2-Black Student Union presents Black History Month Trivia in Sweeney's tutorial, room 609. 
     
    Comic Book Club: Will be during tutorial in room 401 (Mr. Sturgeon) on .  We talk about everything related to comics and there are always plenty of free comics! 
    BHSN Chess Club: 
    After Spring Break there will be a BHSN chess club meeting during tutorial on Tuesday March 21, sign up under Mrs. Miller on the tutorial scheduler.

  • Bring Change to Mind

    7 of our students were picked to attend the national BC2M. The IU President, Vice President and Provost attended, as well as the CEO and stakeholders for the national BC2M. Our club was the only high school chosen to attend and answer questions at the event!

  • BHSN Jazz Band

    All 4 of Bloomington North's Jazz Bands turned in exceptional performances this past weekend. On Friday, Jazz Bands 3 & 4 participated in the ISSMA Jazz Festival. Both bands received Gold ratings With Distinction (especially high scores). Outstanding soloist awards were presented to Eli Jackson (guitar), Zay Bird (tenor sax), Tristan Krieger (trombone), Ace Lee (bass), Kate Thies (tenor sax), and Jaxson Harris (2 awards - baritone sax).

    And on Saturday, Jazz Bands 1 & 2 plus 3 BHSN Combos performed at the 50th Annual Ball State Jazz Festival. Every group played up to its potential with Advanced Jazz being named Honor Band in Sursa Hall and Leo Messier's trio named Runner-Up in the combo hall. Attached is a nice video of Adv. Jazz opening the finale concert (start at the 6:30 mark). Students receiving soloist awards in Sursa Hall were: Elvin DeBruicker (best saxophonist), Leo Messier (best guitarist/pianist), Molly Johnson (best drummer), Declan Dougan (Frank Mantooth Award for outstanding musicianship), and Cedric Brown received a $425 scholarship to the Butler University Summer Jazz Camp. Congratulations to ALL of our student jazz musicians!

  • 2023 BHSN Academic Super Bowl 

    Bloomington North's Academic Super Bowl team won the Brown County Invitational on Thursday night.  The team collectively defeated 12 other schools including Bloomington South.  They will compete in the Area Competition on April 18th here at Bloomington North with a chance to advance to state.

  • BHSN Japanese Olympiad

    BHSN Japanese Olympiad team won the 1st place and the 2nd place in the JOI (Japanese Olympiad of Indiana), an academic quiz competition about Japanese language and culture, held at IU Bloomington.   
     
    Level 2: Jordan Hiller (10th) and Emily Andrews (12th) - they won the 2nd place out of 14 teams
    Level 4: Miles Petro (12th) and Logan Havron (11th) - they won the 1st place out of 4 teams.
