Four Seasons of Learning Mural
All Childs Elementary Students in grades K-6 were involved in some part of the design of the aluminum mural fixed to the front of our building (facing High Street). The mural is titled "Four Seasons of Learning" and features student-created images of all four seasons. Planning, drawing, writing, and incorporation of math, science, and language arts were part of the planning stages. After initial studies, fifth and sixth grade students used the information to design a draft for the mural and then created their individual pieces. Sketches were transferred to sandblock molds, engraved, then poured with aluminum (over a two day period, April 29-30, 2010). Finished pieces were ground, drilled, and a patina was applied before the final installation. The mural is a permanent installation. The mural project was funded with two grants, one from the Bloomington Area Arts Council and one from the Foundation of Monroe County Community Schools. Please be sure to take a closer look at this wonderful piece of art created by Childs Elementary Students!
