    Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! The staff at Marlin is looking forward to providing your child a wonderful year to learn and grow.  This will be an exciting beginning as we greet both the returning students and those new to Marlin this fall.

    I want provide a quick update on a few things for this school year and let you know about a few important dates coming up.  First, Marlin’s Meet and Greet Open house will be August 6th from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  This will be an opportunity for students and families to meet their new teachers.  The first day of school is August 7th

    Marlin will have a new Special Education teacher this year.  Tina Cowden will join us from University Elementary, where she has taught for the previous thirteen years.  Before working at University, Tina taught at Fairview Elementary for twenty years.  We are so excited about Tina joining us a Marlin.  Marlin will also welcome a new media specialist this year.  Kathy Ault will be joining us, she previously worked as a classroom teacher and media specialist.  She most recently worked at Northview High School in Brazil, Indiana as a media specialist.  Amy Hernandez, who has taught kindergarten the past two years, has moved to Minnesota.  Megan Handel will continue to teach kindergarten, and Jennifer Lewis will have a kindergarten/first grade classroom this year.

    Class Lists and Open House

    Class lists for grades K-6 will be posted at 3:00 p.m. on August 6th.  In addition, we are offering an Open House for parents and students on Tuesday, August 6th, from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. to visit the classrooms.  It will be necessary for the Open House to end promptly at 4:00 p.m. in order for teachers to prepare for the first day of school.  If you are unable to attend the Open House, the main hallway will be accessible until 6:00 p.m. for you to check classroom assignments.

    Teachers will be sending home information detailing classroom procedures, curriculum, and other pertinent information.  Please be sure to read this information carefully.

    The Parent-Teacher Organization will host an additional Open House/Picnic on Thursday, August 29th from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

    Online Registration for 2019-20 school year

    All returning families need to complete student registration materials for the 2019-2020 school year. These forms are online and accessed through your Skyward Family Access login.  Please update required registration materials before August 20th.  If you have forgotten your password, select the “Forgot your Login/Password” link below the “Sign In” button and you will be prompted with reset instructions. Skyward Family Access is connected to the email address provided upon initial enrollment.  If you have any questions, please contact our school office.

    Lunch Prices

    Daily lunch is $2.85.  An account is set up for each child and payments may be paid by the week, month, or semester.  Checks (payable to MCCSC Food Service) or cash should be placed in an envelope with the child’s name and room number on it.  Children may bring their lunch or buy a school lunch.  Online payments may be made through the MyPaymentsPlus app.  Information regarding online payment can be found on the MCCSC website under the Food Services Department tab.Click here for payment information

    Free & Reduced Lunch

    We understand that in order for students to be successful in school, they must receive the proper daily nutrition. We strive to meet the nutritional needs of our students each and every day.
    Please note that the 2018-2019 free/reduced lunch application grace window will be expiring soon. If your child obtained free/reduced lunch assistance during the 2018-2019 school year they will need to re-apply for the 2019-2020 school year.  Apply here

    Book Rental Fees

    Book rental fees will be billed to you by MCCSC and will be payable to the MCCSC Administration Center.  We do not accept payment at the school.

    Beginning Calendar

    Wednesday August 7th – Full Day, Grades K-6

    Thursday August 29– Open House/Picnic 5:30-7:00

    Monday September 2nd – Labor Day –No School

    School Pictures

    Individual student pictures will be taken on Friday, September 13th.  Retakes will be October 25th

    School Hours

    9:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. (Monday – Friday) for all grades.

    The school is open to students at 8:45 a.m., and students should not arrive prior to that time unless involved in an organized school program.  School does begin promptly at 9:00 a.m.  Students should be in their classrooms no later than 8:55 a.m. to prepare for the day.

    School Parking

    Please park vehicles only in designated parking areas.  Do not park along the red curbs as the authorities may ticket or tow vehicles illegally parked.

    Car Riders

    Arrival

    All parents, including those bringing their child into the building, must use the front entrance at all times.  Staff have been instructed to redirect all adults to the doors at the front of the building should they come to the doors by the primary wing.  Parents parking and bringing their child into the building must park in the lot.

    We only drop off on one side of the front drive, the side along the sidewalk curb.  Please do not pull around cars that are dropping off in front of your car.  Many students get out of the side of their car that is not along the curb.  Drop off is a single file line, please wait for the car in front of you to move ahead before moving forward.  We appreciate your patience.

    Please take note of the Stop sign in the drop off line.  Please stop at the sign so that we can ensure a safe area for all parties where cars, buses, and walkers come together.

    Dismissal

    When picking up children at dismissal, if you choose to park in the lot, all children need to be escorted by an adult all the way to the car.  Parents must come to the front of the building to collect their child, we will not release children unless adults come all the way to where students are grouped together.  I have instructed faculty and staff to not release students unless parents come to this area.

    We will only dismiss children to cars at dismissal that are close enough to the building (the line we use is cars need to have reached the sidewalk (or equivalent on other side of drive).  We will not dismiss students to proceed to their cars until all cars are completely stopped, please do not call your child over until we give them the all clear sign.  We do this to ensure that all vehicles are stopped and in a safe position.

    Please wait for an adult to signal that all students are safely loaded before moving forward and exciting the driveway.

    Bus Information

    Bus information cards identifying bus stops and pick-up/drop-off times will be mailed before the first day of school.

    Before/After School Care

    The School Age Care office (330-7702) provides and manages this service.  Please contact them to enroll or re-enroll.  Forms must be returned to their office (401 E. Miller Drive) with enrollment fees.  Students will not be able to attend extended day until they are official enrolled for the 2019-2020 school year.

    Hello Marlin Dragons! My name is Joe Lutes and I am ecstatic to be your new physical education teacher at Marlin! I look forward to meeting all of you in the coming weeks. In PE we will focus on a wide variety of activities from fitness to playground games. The need for physical activity has never been greater and I plan to give each student, regardless of skill the tools necessary to live a happy, healthy lifestyle!
