The MCCSC and FMCCS will host our fourth annual Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science (GEMS*) conference on Saturday, April 10, 2021. The conference is for 5th and 6th grade girls in Monroe County and will be virtual this year, allowing for even broader participation and for a unique look into the actual working environments of local STEM professionals! Girls will have the opportunity to work with female STEM professionals and enjoy the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)!

*Note: GEMS welcomes cis girls, trans girls, and any girl-identified youth, as well as non-binary and gender non-conforming youth.

This year's virtual conference will open with a Virtual Career Expo from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM. At the expo, girls and their families can explore and learn more about STEM career opportunities in the surrounding areas through interactive Bitmoji expo booths.

After the Career Expo, girls will be divided into small groups to work with female experts in STEM education and industry. Groups will participate in four 30-minute hands-on activities in the fields of engineering design, chemistry, biology, forensic science, technology, and math via Microsoft Teams.  The supplies for these activities and other conference goodies will be available for pick-up at each of the participants' school during the week before the event.
