The health and wellness of students and staff at Clear Creek Elementary is a top priority. We have many health initiatives that promote physical activity, healthy food choices, and teaching our students how to live a healthy life style.Congratulations Clear Creek Elementary for winning 1st place in the MCCSC Healthy Schools Challenge!FAMILY FITNESS NIGHTS -Join us for family fitness nights this school year! We will host activity stations, exercise and fitness games, healthy snacks, giveaways, and door prizes. Community members from Indiana University and the YMCA will be present at our family fitness nights.Wear athletic clothing, athletic shoes, and bring a bottle of water labeled with your name.Fun for the entire family!Food Art- Our monthly food art is led by our Student Nutrition Team and adult staff members. All students in Kindergarten through 6th grade create art pieces using fruits and vegetables. We work closely with our cafeteria and food service staff to select and prepare the produce used during food art activities. Power point presentations accompany each food art lesson and detail the health benefits of the fruits and veggies used.School Garden- Our school garden continues to grow thanks to our partners at AmeriCorps, IU Health, and the IU Biology Department. A gardening curriculum is provided for students and the students are in charge of working in the garden. This school year we will start an after school Garden Club. Some of the produce harvested in our garden is used on the salad bar in our school cafeteria.Change the Play- Our school participates in this program sponsored by IU Health and Riley Children's Hospital. Students complete exercises, stretches, and various physical activities in the classroom, in addition to viewing an online nutrition lesson. Activities are also shared for students to complete at home with families. Some students went to Indianapolis for the Change the Play field day with Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.GOAL University- Goal U. is an after school program that teaches nutrition and fitness lessons. Students participate in high intensity games, new exercises, and sample unique healthy snacks.ENERGIZE!- This program is brought to Clear Creek from the YMCA. Students are taught how to monitor their heart rate, complete cardiovascular activities, and learn about proper nutrition. Click HERE for information about My Plate, which explains daily eating suggestions.Move It Minutes Our students are encouraged to be active outside of school. For every 15 minutes students complete a physical activity at home, they can log this on their Move It Minute tracking sheet. Once a sheet is full and a parent signs to verify the activities, students can turn it in to our P.E. teacher and be added to the wall of fame in our gym. Then it's time to get a new tracking sheet. Easy and fun! Get moving! Click HERE for the Move It Minute tracking sheet. For questions about our other health and wellness initiatives, contact the school.
