The Artful Learning Model is an arts-based school improvement model inspired by the vision of the great American composer, Leonard Bernstein. His work spans from choral works to orchestral symphonies to movie scores, Broadway musicals and operas. Throughout his life as an artist, teacher, and scholar, Bernstein was committed to communicating what he learned through his scholarship and artistic work. He observed the artistic process – the process of creating and experiencing art – as a fundamental way of learning, and one transferable to any discipline. The passion and enduring impact of Bernstein’s vision led to the founding of the Leonard Bernstein Center resulting in the Artful Learning Model.

Bernstein said, “The greatest gift my father bestowed on us children was to teach us to love learning.” To learn more about Leonard Bernstein and the Artful Learning model, visit their web page here.
