Dear Kathy:
The John Carroll University Young Writers Workshop (YWW), a week-long summer camp at John Carroll University, is now offering both day camp and overnight residential options, so students from all over the country can experience inspiring and rigorous creative writing! This year's workshop takes place from July 19-23, 2021. The cost for the day-only option is $380; the residential option is $980. Early bird rates and some scholarships are available. The application deadline for the workshop is June 1st, 2021. For more information about the JCU YWW, please visit sites.jcu.edu/yww.
In the JCU YWW, students grades 8-12 participate in an immersive writing experience in the craft of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Studying with acclaimed professors, students read, engage in writing exercises, workshop their stories and poems, and experience a pre-college environment. They compose new work, which will be published in our annual anthology. The last day of camp features a reception and reading by the Young Writers. Here's a video about our program.
This past year we hosted the YWW fully online. If we're still dealing with the pandemic this summer, we are able to offer the workshop online again. The show will go on! Flexible camp options for writers to participate in-person or online may be available.
As a writer of nine books, I have always sought the company of other writers to improve my craft. Community is essential to my experience of being a writer. I founded the YWW in 2010 because I believed that high school writers also craved a space to read, write, and share their work -- with established writers and peers. Mentorship and community provide the kindling for the writer's fiery desire to write great stories and poems. The alums of the YWW have proved me right! For more information about my work, check out this site.

Happy writing!
