• Sample Online Academy Schedules

Below are sample schedules for the Online Academy.  Though there may be some changes, this should give a basic understanding of a daily schedule.  All these schedules adhere to Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) guidelines for online instruction.  In addition, the IDOE requires attendance be taken daily.

Based on our survey last spring, we heard that more direct instruction and opportunities for socialization are necessary.  As a result, there will be live sessions each day (K-8).  However, in order to make it easier on families, we have tried to put the majority of live sessions in the morning (K-6).  During the afternoon, most of the work will include independent activities which will include online and offline assignments and some pre-recorded video instruction.

We do plan to keep students from the same grade at the same school in the same classes whenever possible.

Though its always best to complete the assignments the day they are provided, please speak with your teacher regarding any concerns or necessary flexibility on due dates.

Examples of activities that will take place during the LIVE instruction:

Social Emotional Learning: Daily community building activity, often aligned to the day's instruction (this will take place during the Morning Meeting).

English/Language Arts: Interactive Read Aloud, Shared Reading, & Guided Reading: These all require real-time interaction and participation with the teacher and students

Math: Number Corner & Skill Explanation: These require real-time questioning and responses between the teacher and students

Other: Teachers may recommend additional live sessions with students to discuss feedback or provide targeted remediation or enrichment on specific skills based on student needs

Examples of activities that may be Pre-Recorded:

English/Language Arts: Phonics/Word Study, Reading Mini Lessons, Writing, Modeling Skills

Math: Direct Instruction & Modeling Skills

Other: Science and/or Social Studies Instruction, Daily Instructions, etc.

Examples of activities that may be provided for Independent work:

English/Language Arts: Journal Writing, Independent Reading, Comprehension Questions, Inquiry Activities, Phonics/Word Study Activities, Writing

Math: Exploring Math Concepts, Hands-on Manipulatives, Math Games

Other: Apps personalized to student need, STEAM Activities, Social Studies Workbook, Project-Based Learning, Interactive Group Work, Choice Boards

    Kindergarten-2nd Grade

ELA instruction would be 2 days a week and Math instruction would be 2 days a week.  Math and ELA will take place on Fridays.  Social Studies & Science will be integrated throughout the week. Activities/assignments from each school's specials (Art, Music, Spanish, PE, and Library) will be provided for students weekly.

Students will be split into an AM online group (live online activities in the morning, teacher-assigned independent work in the afternoon) and a PM online group (teacher-assigned independent work in the morning, live online activities in the afternoon).  Below is an example of what the day may look like.  Though students may switch between groups, we hope to keep them as consistent as possible.  The teacher will work with the parents to determine if students will be in the AM or PM group.

    Middle School

Students in the Middle School Online Academy will have a mix of live (synchronous) and pre-recorded (asynchronous) instruction and assignments for each of their core classes (English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies).  They will be required to login for each of these courses (approximately 45 minute blocks) based on detailed schedule information provided by their teachers each week.  Attendance will be taken for each course. Students will receive mostly asynchronous (pre-recorded) instruction from their elective courses which will be taught by teachers from their neighborhood/home school.  Teachers will also have live office hours at the end of each day in case students or parents have any questions.  There will be a limited number of middle school electives available as part of the Online Academy.
