    Kindergarten ELA Focus Skills

     Have daily reading experiences - listen to a story that is read aloud and talk about the story. predict what will happen next; answer questions about the story.

     Say the alphabet in correct order (clearly pronouncing each letter) and identify upper and lower case letters.

     Read and write their first and last name  Recognize colors (red, orange, blue, black, brown, purple, pink, white, yellow, green).  Listen to word pairs and identify those that rhyme (hat, cat, or fox, box). By September, your

    child should be able to give you pairs of rhyming words.  Give, repeat, and follow two-step directions.  Sort items or pictures into groups that have similar features and explain why they put the

    items together.
