Indiana's WIDA ELD Standards AdoptionThe Indiana Department of Education has adopted the WIDA English Language Development (ELD) standards in 2014, and the implementation started from school year 2014-15.For successful implementation of the WIDA ELD standards, all educators who work with English learners must be familiar with the standards, which should be part of our professional learning topics.This page is created as a starting point to assist educators to become familiar with the WIDA ELD standards. WIDA ELD Standards Implementation ObjectivesContent Objective:Content area teachers will be able to embed academic language into their content lessons using the WIDA ELD standards framework to make the academic content accessible for all English learners.Language Objective:Content area teachers will be able to write strands of Model Performance Indicators for grade-level content lesson topics in their discipline area using the WIDA MPI Template.Professional DevelopmentProfessional development opportunities will be available for educators at the state, district, and school level. Professional learning activities should occur with sufficient frequency to meet the educators' needs.
