Ms. Hilary Cannon Anderson
Ms. Anderson is the art teacher at Summit Elementary.
Growing up Hilary woke with the crows and colored until food, chores, or family demanded her attention. She took a variety of art classes through high school and college until declaring the sensible college major of Economics. While spending a year and half in Germany, Hilary realized Economics is not a sensible degree if one hates all related jobs. Upon her marriage and move to Madison Wisconsin she returned to school to earn a degree in German Secondary Education. Moving from Wisconsin to Maine made that degree less useful so Hilary focused her artistic pursuits on fiber arts, experimenting and expanding her skills in art quilting, dyeing, surface design, embroidery, and knitting.
Upon moving to Bloomington Hilary began weaving, felting, and teaching elementary science enrichment for WonderLab. With her increasing passion for teaching and decreeing passion for marketing her artwork, Hilary began coursework at Indiana University. She managed to incorporate fiber arts in the final projects for all her studio courses including Color and Design, Introduction to 3D art, printmaking, photography, and ceramics. Hilary complete her masters in Art Education in 2012 and began teaching art at Summit the following year.
Hilary loves gathering inspiration for future student art projects while traveling and visiting museums with her family. She considers her garden a semi-edible living quilt. Hilary continues experimenting and making fiber creations. Having fiber, dirt, mud, or clay in her hands makes her happy. She also enjoys hiking and talking with family and friends.
