Hello! My name is Micah Heath and I am excited to begin my second year as the principal at Arlington Heights Elementary School. I am very much looking forward to working with your children, AHE staff members, the AHE community, and you to make Arlington Heights one of the very best schools in the state!
A little about myself… I grew up in North Vernon, IN and graduated from Jennings County High School. Upon graduation I worked full time and attended IUPUC part time. Two years later I realized that being an educator was my true calling and so I began my journey at the University of Southern Indiana where I received a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education. I began my career in education as a 5th grade teacher at Sturgis Elementary School in Sturgis, KY. Two years later I returned to Central Indiana and accepted a position as a 6th grade teacher at Edinburgh Community Middle School. During my three year tenure teaching 6th grade I also acquired a Master’s of Arts in Education in Educational Administration and Supervision. In my last year with Edinburgh Community School Corporation I served as the Technology Integration Specialist and Testing Coordinator. In 2012 I started my career as an educational administrator when I accepted the principal position at Vienna-Finley Elementary School in Scottsburg, IN.
I truly believe that a school cannot be great without positive support from parents, family members, and the community. The following excerpt from Schoolastic.com perfectly sums up the importance of a strong school to home connection: When parents and teachers work well together, everyone benefits. Parents and teachers can provide each other with unique insight and different perspectives about the same child, culminating in a more complete understanding of that child, his or her abilities, strengths, and challenges. The teacher will know much more about the curriculum and the school culture, while you know more about your child's personality, tendencies, and family life. A successful parent-teacher partnership also shows a child that an entire team of adults is on his or her side.
I promise to…
Make decisions based upon what is in the best interest of AHE students;
Believe in each and every student;
Create a climate of high expectations for staff and students; a climate in which everyone feels valued and appreciated;
Be the chief advocate for AHE and to act as a liaison between the school and community at every opportunity;
Be a role model for students in professionalism and integrity;
Maintain transparent and honest communication with everyone;
Continually nurture the relationships I am building with students, staff, and parents.
