      March 13, 2020:   No School.  We are applying for a waiver from the IDOE for this day of learning.

      March 16, 2020 - March 20, 2020:   No School.  Monroe County Community School Corporation will be on spring break

      Week of March 23, 2020 through May 1st, 2020

      MCCSC teachers will work their contractual hours and be accessible throughout the school day

      Teacher Office Hours Monday through Friday

      9:00 am - 11:00 am and 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

       

      March 23, 2020:  Learning Packet and Device Pick Up at each building from 11:00 am-2:00 pm.  Each school will send out a parent letter outlining their learning packet and device pick up plan including door numbers and location of the items to be distributed.  Meal pick up and medication pick up will also be available during the 11:00-2:00 time frame.  If you are not able to pick up your packet or device during the 11:00-2:00 time frame please contact your child’s school to make alternative arrangements.

      • K-2 Students: Learning Packets-Student learning will continue through learning packets that are available for pick up on Monday, March 23rd or Wednesday, March 25th from 11:00-2:00.  If neither of these times work to pick up your child’s packet you can contact your child’s school to determine another mutually convenient time.  Packets may be returned to the school up to two weeks after school has reopened or during packet pick up times between 11:00-2:00 on Monday and Wednesday.  Devices (iPads) will not be sent home for students in grades K-2; however, the content can be printed from Canvas or your child’s teacher can email the PDF packet if requested by the parent.  Teachers will be available during regular school hours to answer questions. K-2 Day 1 & Day 2 Learning Packets available below. Please reach out to your Teacher, School Principal, or visit your School's Website for the Learning Packets. 

       

      • 3-6 Students: Canvas or Learning Packets- Student learning will continue through lessons posted on Canvas.  Paper packets for grades 3-6 will also be available with the printed lessons will be available for pick up on Monday, March 23rd or Wednesday, March 25th from 11:00-2:00.  Technology support for Canvas is available on the MCCSC home page or an email can be sent to accounts@mccsc.edu .  Students can submit assignments through Canvas or return their packets up to two weeks after school has reopened or during drop off packet times between 11:00-2:00.  Teachers will be available during regular school hours to answer questions and interact with students via Canvas’ embedded message functions.

       

      • 7-12 Students: CanvasStudents will receive teacher-led instruction for all scheduled classes via Canvas.  Students should have taken their iPads (middle school) or laptops (high school) home and be able to access their lessons through our learning management system, Canvas.  Supplemental learning materials will be available for pick up, upon request.   If your child did not bring home their device, pick up will be available on Monday, March 23rd from 11:00-2:00 or Wednesday, March 25th from 11:00-2:00.  Teachers will be available during regular school hours to answer questions and interact with students via Canvas’ embedded message functions.

       

      March 25, 2020:  Additional opportunity to pick up packets, devices, and meals from 11:00-2:00 at all schools.

       

      March 30th - May 1st: For the protection of all, the MCCSC will be closed through Friday, May 1st.  Instruction will begin on Wednesday, March 25th and contiune through May 1st.  Please know this may be extended per direction from the State of Indiana, Department of Education and/or Monroe County Health Department.

      We know some of our families rely heavily on breakfast and lunch service in our schools.  Beginning March 23, 2020 MCCSC Food Service Department will provide pick-up service at all schools during the close down.  Students can pick up meals at any of the school sites or alternate locations listed below. 

      Location:  Main entrance of All School Sites & alternate sites listed below

      Pickup time:  11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

      Pickup day:   Monday, Wednesday and Friday

      Food packages will include 2 breakfast meals and 2 lunch  meals per student in each family on Monday and Wednesday and 1 breakfast and 1 lunch on Friday.  All food items will be labeled with the product name and allergens**.

      Frequently asked questions (Q & A): 

      Q. Is the meal service limited to students on free or reduced-price meals?

      A. No, the meal service is provided for all MCCSC students.

      Q. I have children at multiple schools, do I have to go to each school to pick up?

      A. No, meals can be picked up at any school location. 

      Q. Do I need identification?

      A. Parents will be asked for your students name and their home school.

      Q. Is a printed menu available?

      A. The menu is posted on the Food Service Web page

      Q. How do I know how many carbs are in an item and what the allergens are?

      A. Nutritional data and allergens are available on the web menu by hoovering over the menu item.  Allergen labels are also included on the individual food items. 

      Q. Will meals be available for pick-up outside of the advertised time window?

      A. No, meal pick-up is limited to 11:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. every other day beginning with the first day of closure.

      Internet Connectivity

       

      Drive-Thru WiFi Access

      Daily from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., drive-thru WiFi will be available for any MCCSC student to visit one of two outdoor locations for downloading course materials to their school device. Students and parents are asked to access materials for download to the device and not remain on the property for extended amounts of time. Student connections will work identically to their daily connection in a school building with the only difference being the outdoor location.

      IU Networks is providing free WiFi access to people who may not have high-speed Internet available due to library and business COVID-19 related closures. This IU “lot-hot-spot” enables users to maintain social distancing by remaining in their cars while accessing the Internet. WiFi is now being broadcasted in the signed area within the Orange parking lot between Memorial Stadium and Assembly Hall. Non-IU affiliated members of the public can access WiFI via the “IU Guest” SSID. MCCSC students then also have the option of using this location to download course materials to their school devices and outside of the 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. period offered at MCCSC drive-through WiFi lots. IU and MCCSC ask that parents accompany their children and to not remain at the lot-hot-spot longer than necessary.

       

      Discounted Home Internet Access

      Some local service providers also offer discounted Internet rate plans for families who are eligible for public assistance programs such as the National School Lunch Program, Housing Assistance, Medicaid, SNAP, or SSI.

      Comcast Internet EssentialsComcast, which owns Xfinity, will offer 60 days free and increased speeds for new families who join the Internet Essentials program, an internet access program for low income families that is normally $9.95 a month.

      Access from AT&TAT&T announced it would not cancel service and would waive late fees for any wireless, home phone, broadband residential or small business customer experiencing hardships because of the coronavirus pandemic and can't pay their bills. Qualifying low income households can apply for $10 a month internet access through the Access from AT&T program. Fixed Wireless Internet and Wireline customers can use unlimited internet data. AT&T will also keep public Wi-Fi hotspots open.

      Lifeline from Smithville

      Charter Communications announced on March 13, 2020 that for 60 days the company will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access to homes with K- 12 and/or college students who do not already have a subscription. Installation fees will also be waived for these households. Enroll by calling 844-488-8395.

    • SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES (Español / 한국어 / 中文 / العربية)

      Students receiving special education services will continue to receive support.  
       
      • Special Education and related services staff will collaborate with other classroom teachers to ensure that the content provided is accessible and students receive appropriate accommodations for work through the MCCSC Contingency Learning Plan.
      • Case conferences:  Special Education teachers will contact parents and other members of case conference committees and make arrangements for conferences to continue through alternate means, such as video or phone conferences.
      • Direct Services: Special Education teachers and Speech Language Pathologists will provide individualized work opportunities for students that are designed to address the goals in their IEP. 
        • For example, if a student is to receive 20 minutes of direct support in reading, they may receive additional instructional work or practice related to those same reading deficits.  
        • Special Education teachers may also connect with students directly through video chats, FaceTime or other means. 
      • Related Services (e.g. Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy): Related service personnel will collaborate with Special Education and General Education staff regarding students' specific needs and the support they need in order to access the content and be appropriately accommodated. 

      Homebound Instruction

      • Students currently receiving homebound instruction will continue to receive that Special Education service during the implementation of the MCCSC Contingency Learning Plan.  Students will receive instructional content through the same format (e.g. Canvas, paper materials, or Plato) that was used prior to school closure but services/support will be provided through either video or phone conferencing. 

      •  The Teacher of Record and/or Homebound Instructor will contact parents to make arrangements.

      As public conversations around coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) increase, children may worry about themselves, their family, and friends getting ill with COVID-19. Parents, family members, school staff, and other trusted adults can play an important role in helping children make sense of what they hear in a way that is honest, accurate, and minimizes anxiety or fear. CDC has created guidance to help adults have conversations with children about COVID-19 and ways they can avoid getting and spreading the disease.

      Frequently Asked Questions regarding Early Learning and the MCCSC closure due to elevate health risk

       

      *The safety and health of your children is our top priority.  Thank you for your patience and flexibility during this difficult time. 

      Will my tuition be adjusted? – A statement will be emailed to all families from the Office of Early Learning and Out of School Programs.  Account credits will be applied to any program days, for which families have already paid,  where MCCSC is closed due to the elevated health risk. Credits will be applied to future tuition for the remaining school year, or can be transferred to other programs such as summer camp, preschool or extended day for next year or for a sibling. If refunds are necessary, they will not be processed until the end of the school year and will take 6 – 8 weeks to receive.

      Will the closing be extended? – Monroe County Community School Corporation will work closely with the Monroe County Health Department and Indiana Department of Education. The need to add additional days/weeks of closure may be forthcoming as we continue to work with the Monroe County Health Department and Indiana Department of Education.  If MCCSC determines it is necessary to extend the closure of MCCSC facilities, it will be announced from the corporation and shared on the corporation webpage www.mccsc.edu.

      Can I still register for Camp/Preschool/Early Learning Center/Hoosier Hills Childcare Center? – Yes. The Office of Early Learning and Out of School Programs will remain physically closed for service, but families may still register through the links provided on the webpages. Staff in the office will continue to process enrollments and accept payments. Payments can be made over the phone or through the parent portal in Procare.

      Meals –  Children who attend the centers can pick up meals for breakfast and lunch on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after spring break (March 23, 25, & 27) from 11:00am – 2:00pm.  Early Learning Center families can go directly to Templeton to pick up meals and Hoosier Hills Childcare families can go directly to Bloomington High School North to pick up meals.

    Welcome Letter 2019-2020 School Year 

     

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

     

    I want to be the first to welcome all of you to another great year at Binford Elementary School.  I am excited and proud to help lead and guide all of our future and current Badgers this upcoming school year.   This 2019-20 school year will be an exciting and special year for all of our students.  We are going to put a huge emphasis on stressing the importance of living the values of our life-Skills and school wide essential agreements of Being Safe, Being Respectful, Being Responsible, as well as developing students into lifelong learners.

     

    If your family has not already registered online through the MCCSC website please do that as soon as possible so that we can ensure that we have accurate numbers for the start of the school year. Please make sure the registration is filled out in its entirety, as there are important forms that all students need for the upcoming school year like the field trip permission, and video/photography consent, etc.  If you experiencing difficulty filling out the form online please stop by our office when it opens and we can assist you.  

     

    I am excited to be able to announce that Binford and Rogers will have Spanish as a class this year for their students! This will be an exciting opportunity for our students, as we become globally minded citizens, to learn and understand the language, culture, and customs of other countries.

     

    Parents remember that we have lots of great opportunities at Binford.  Please consider joining our great clubs such as: LEAD, Chess Club, Math Club, Coding Club, Robotics, 6th Grade Choir, 6th Grade Band, 5th and 6th Grade Strings, 5th and 6th Grade Running Club, and  3rd and 4th Grade Girls on the Run.

     

    Arrival and Dismissal Plans

     

    Our school arrival and dismissal plans will be the same as they were last year.  Students may enter Binford at 8:45 am.

     

    Arrival: Car riders will follow the circle drive and drop Binford students off at the sidewalk in front of Binford only. 

     

    Walkers will walk around the sidewalk next to the playground and enter door number 1.  Please do not cross in front of Rogers this will allow for traffic to move quicker with less students using the crosswalk.

     

    Bus Riders will be dropped off and enter door #2...... and then enter the school.

     

    Dismissal: Students will begin dismissal procedures at 3:40.

     

    Walkers/Bike riders will be dismissed first and they will exit at door 10. 

     

    Car Riders will be dismissed to the cafeteria and will be escorted out by staff when their car pulls up to the sidewalk in front of Binford.

     

    Bus Riders will be in the auditorium until their bus arrives and they are dismissed.

     

    Extended Day students will be dismissed to their designated area at this time.

     

     

     

    Important Topics

     

    ATTENDANCE: Please keep in mind, if your child will not be present on the first day of school or any day thereafter, please call our attendance line at 812-330-7741 and choose option 2. For your convenience, the attendance line is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

     

    OFFICE RE-OPENING: The office is closed for the summer. We will re-open on Monday, July 22nd. Our Administrative Assistants will be pleased to assist you during this time.

     

    On-Line Enrollment – If you are having difficulties with your on-line enrollment, please do not hesitate to contact one our Administrative Assistants for help. You can reach the office by calling 812-330-7741 press 0 to talk to either Mrs. Wimmer or Mrs. Barnes when the office has re-opened after summer break.

     

     Background Checks – Please keep in mind, background checks are required annually (calendar school year). If you are planning on volunteering in our building or chaperoning a field trip, please stop in the office to complete the background check form. We will need to see your current driver’s license and make a copy for our records. Please keep in mind the first three days are extremely busy in the office. Please wait until the following weeks to do background checks.
