Teacher's Lounge

The TNT Teacher's Lounge is a source for professional camaraderie. Teachers will find online forums they can log on to share ideas, chat with other professionals and find electronic resources to facilitate discussion about topics of interest.

Connect with Teachers

• Teachers Helping Teachers provides basic teaching tips to inexperienced teachers, disseminates new teaching ideas, and provides a forum called Teacher Chat for experienced teachers to share their expertise and tips with colleagues around the world.

• Mighty Media Teachers Lounge Includes an on-line forum called Teacher Talk, where K-12 educators can exchange ideas, debate issues of the day, and act as a resource to each other. There is also a forum for students.

• The Education Webpage Offers free lesson plans and software, education news and links to state education departments. There are three chatrooms: one each for teachers and students, and a "scholarly chatroom" that anyone can use to discuss any topic.

• Teacher Link an international community of teachers online. You'll find formal discussions, casual chat places, bulletin boards, and links to teachers who share things in common.

• Classroom Connect Virtual Auditorium -Classroom Connect maintains an on-line discussion room that is always open for educators to use to discuss issues related to using the Internet in the classroom. Most of the time the room is available for open chat, but several dozen special sessions that are moderated by a Classroom Connect staff member are scheduled each month.

• The National Teaching & Learning Forum a newsletter written for educators by educators." Through a lively mix of successful real-life teaching methods and sophisticated strategies supported by the best new research on teaching and learning, the Forum takes teaching for what it is -- the life of the mind at work in the classroom."(quoted from the NTLF)

• Electronic School on the Web An online journal that provides K-12 educators with information on networking trends and development, case studies, and controversies relevant to education adn technology.

  Listservs:

  A listserv is an automated mailing system that is a mail reflector. Sending a mail message to a mailing list causes the LISTSERV system managing that list to mail (reflect) that message to every subscriber/member of the list.

  Where do I find listserv addresses?
  There are a few places to find listserv addresses. Generally you can hear about listservs from friends and colleagues or you can find addresses in books (listserv directory books, Internet books, educational technology magazines, etc...)

  How do you subscribe?
  
  Here are the steps I would follow to subscribe myself to a listserv name EDTECH which focuses on K-12 educational technology.

  1. From your email, create a new message and in the TO: column, type listserv@address
  

  e.g.
  TO: listserv@msu.edu
  
  

  2. Press ENTER or RETURN until your cursor is in the body or the message area. Leave the SUBJECT: line totally blank!

  3. In the message area, type subscribe listserv name and your first and last name.
  

  e.g.
  MESSAGE:
  subscribe EDTECH Wendy Tamborrino

  4. Put is all together and this it what it should look like: (if you are using PINE)

  From: wtamborr@indiana.edu
  Cc:

  How do I unsubscribe to a list?
  If I wanted to unsubscribe to a listserv, I would send a message to listserv@address. Don't type anything in the SUBJECT. In the MESSAGE BOX, type unsubscribe listserv name and your first and last name. It looks like this:
