Bradford
Woods
Hi. My name is Sam, and my name is
Jake. We want to tell you about the great time we had at Bradford Woods.
We First got the and saw our
cabins and settled in. After that we had a meeting and talked about all
of the awesome activities we were going to do.We also met the camp counselors.
Then we went back to our cabins to get our lunches and eat.
Then we started the awesome activities.
First we went hiking. Then we had a free choice activity. Then the choices
were:
1. Baseball
2. Archery
3. Fishing
4. Candle Making
Jake and I choose archery,
it was so cool. But for the second one we choose baseball, it was
also very fun. But than came one of the best if not the best
activity, The night hike. The night hike is when you stay up until midnight
night and than go for a hike the woods, and you can not see were you are
going. It is very freaky. Then when we got back it was still dark and they
told us a story about a moon rock, and gave us a piece of it that you could
eat an when you bit into it, it would light up.
The next morning we woke up and went on the
all day hike. It was 6 hours long, but it was very fun to catch crawl dads
in creek on the way back. Then we came back and went to our cabins to freshen
up. After that we went to the dinning hall where we ate dinner. Then we
went back to our cabins and slapped a bit of cologne on to freshen up for
the women at the Bradford Woods dance. Where we danced till we dropped.
Also the Spice Girls came by and sang “Do ya want to be my Lova”. It was
so cool we could not stop dancing. The party went on till 11:00 at the
dinning hall. But, continued all night at the Oak cabin.
The next night we had the Dutch Auction.
The Dutch Auction is when your cabin members bring everything you can think
of to the dinning hall. The teachers call out an object or characteristic
and your cabin has to have it.We continued it all night long
and enjoyed every minute of it.
Unfortunately the next day we had to leave
Bradford Woods. Bradford Woods left a permanent place in our mind and will
be a part of our lives everyday.

Student
Teachers (Miss Gerber and Miss Fabiano)
Student Teachers.
We have had two
of the greatest student teachers this year, Miss.Gerber, and Miss.Fabiano.
Miss.Gerber was with us during the fall semester when she left we gave
her a surprise party! When Miss Fabiano came she did a lot of nice
stuff with us in science. Miss. Fabiano ate a candle in one of our science
experiments, and then Amber ate the other end. Amber said, “It’s potato!”
We all laughed about it. Miss Gerber also did some fun stuff with us like,
going to Bradford woods, and being there for us to talk to she was a very
cool teacher. Miss Fabiano had some very funny sayings we will all remember.
All of our student teachers are the very best any of us will ever have!

Celebration
Poetry Celebration
by: Tyler and Wes
The most important thing in life and in cooperating
is without a doubt group participation. We used this important lifeskill
to help us make the best of this presentation.
"It take a lot of work, but it was
fun" says Sam, one of the students in Mrs. Tamborrino 5th grade class.
"Snip Loodle is not a soup" Author of Snip Loodle, Jake
We have learned how to make Power
Point presentations, and everyone created their poem on it.
"Poetry Celebration was one of the
most memorable moments because the 5th graders put the entire thing together.
I was impressed with the way everyone performed their poem by using Orff
instruments, piano , computers and drama it took a lot of courage and confidence
for each student to perform in front of the entire Binford Elementary student
body."
Some of the poems are Snip Loodle,
My Brother's Cooking, Flowers, Junk Food, and Jncos.
Naturally speaking, food and music,
sports and entertainment even rap were one of the categories the poems
were classified into.

Mystery
from History email project with IU students (Miss Antle, Miss Johnson,
Miss McCormack)
Guess Who?
By Amy & Stephanie
From way in the heart of a computer there was
a mysterious lost creature begging for help. Then some students looking
at their email found a mysterious message. “Help! SOS! Somebody help me!
I am lost in Cyber Space!” They started panicking. Who could this strange
creature be? The students decided to help this creature. They got a little
information and they wrote it back. The next day they found another message
telling more of what it could remember. Finally in about a week it figured
out what it was with our help. Don’t be surprised if you find a mysterious
message in your computer!
Special thanks to Miss McCormack, Miss Antle,
and Miss Johnson who are IU computer endorsement students who led us through
Mystery from History. We also want to send special thanks to the
students in Mrs. Tamborrino's IU W210 computer endorsement class for personifying
the roles of the famous historical figures who were lost in cyberspace.
History was never so alive as when we were involved in Mystery from History!

Legal
Literacy with Mr. Early, Miss McKart, and Miss Slavin
By Rachel and Natalie
What's new with law? Well, that's
what Legal Literacy is all about. We did this law program with IU
Law students, Miss Slavin, Miss McCart, and Mr. Early. For the past
three months we ahve been with these wonderful people. We didn't
go anywhere fancy. The law students just came to out clasroom.
We did this program because it gave us a chance to learn all about law.
It was a great experience!
Dear Miss Slavin and Mr. Early,
Thanks for taking your time out to teach
us. We learned about batteries, trials, and assault. We'll
remember the Calvin and Hobbs trial.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Tamborrino's 5th grade.

Exchange
City
Exchange City
By Mira and Kaylyn
Hi everyone, how ya doin’. Well now you
are going to know a lot of things about Exchange City. To start off with
here re a few things we did to prepare learn how to write checks, how to
fill out deposit slips, and how to do check registers. We also had an Exchange
City Manual. It told us everything we needed to know about Exchange City,
it had our Resume, it told us how much we made, and found out our jobs,
and it told us what our jobs meant, and it had assiments to do. We had
shop meetings too. Some people went to Mrs. Stockwell’s room, some people
go to Miss Milsaps, and some people go to Mrs. Tamborrino, or they just
stay at their own teachers room. After when we went to the real thing there
were at least 10 shops. You have a nametag with a blue, red, or green.
When it said blue lunch, that means that the people with the blue dot on
there name tag can go to lunch. Oh yea, and if you step on the grass you
have to pay a fined. And when it says blue shop, that means that the people
that have a blue dot on their name tag they can go shopping around Exchange
City, the food is pretty good.

Care
Project Care
by Natalie and Amy
Have you ever heard of a class that raised $300.00
dollars for just two kids? Well WE DID!!!!
Mrs. Tamborrino’s class room 102 at Binford
Elementary raised $300.00 dollars for a boy and girl for their Christmas
present. Could you imagine not getting ANY presents for Christmas? Well
we bought many things so it wouldn’t happen. WE made a MERRY Christmas
for those 2 kids. We walked all the way to Target and bought as many presents
as we could by. For a reward we went to
Wendy’s. It wasn’t the food, it was that us kids helped give those kids
the holiday spirit . “ It was neat to help out other kids that weren’t
as fortunate as we were”

Neighborhoods
multicultural simulation
Neighborhoods Project
By Erika and Stephanie
“It’s all about teamwork,” says Amber.
She was talking about the Neighborhoods Project. Some people from other
classes say,” What is the Neighborhoods Project?” The Neighborhoods Project
is where we studied different cultures. After we studied the cultures we
had the Street Fair modeling different food, clothing, and other things
that went with that culture. The different cultures were Hispanic, Irish,
Jewish, Native American, Asian, and African-American.
Everyone was randomly chosen for their group,
unless they were (in real life) in that culture already. The group worked
together. One person was the food person, one was the Arts and Crafts person,
and so on. Each group had a full day where they taught the rest of the
class about their culture. Some favorites of the class during the project
were the food, the posters, and Lizzie liked staying up all night making
the food for her culture. Also, a lot of people liked wearing their costumes.
The most valuable lesson we learned was how to understand other cultures.

Independence
American Revolution simulation
INDEPENDENCE
“No Taxation without Representation,” cried
the Patriots. This is one of the major quotes that we experienced. Imagine
coming to school being a Patriot, Loyalist, or a Neutralist in the 1700’s.
For 6 weeks we had a chance to step out of our roles as fifth graders and
fight for our freedom.
Would you like to fight in school
without getting in trouble, send terrorizing notes, to tar and feather
your best friend, and rough up a thug? Well, in the INDEPENDENCE simulation
you can. If you want to go through INDEPENDENCE you have to go through
pacts, pows, points, and historical bulletins first. The hardest side was
the Neutralists because they had to decipher between the compelling arguments
of both Patriots and Loyalists. The Neutralists come to a side and neglect
the other side that you disapprove. That raps up our INDEPENDENCE
simulation. Thanks for reading!

EQUALITY
diversity understanding simulation
Equality and Prejudice
“It made
me except other peoples’ differences”, says Lizzie about Equality. That’s
what many people thought about this fun, exciting, sad simulation. Equality
was a simulation where you would each get a role to play. We would have
different situations where we even had to argue with our peers about our
differences. There is no way to explain the tension we experienced.
It varies every year. The tension was so fierce that we felt like crying.
It made us very mad because we even had to insult our own race just for
our roles. The reason we did this simulation was to show that no matter
how different we are we should all come together in peace. No matter how
young or weak we are we can still make a difference in the world. I hope
you look forward to this exiting simulation next year.

Y2K
Terrestrial Zoo Theme Park WebQuest
Spotted
lions, long-necked tigers, and small-headed bears, oh my!
The
time...January 1, 2001.
The
event...Y2K! (Year 2000)
Not
only have the computers gone crazy, but the world is in total chaos!
The arrival of the new millenium has brought rapid, unusual changes in
animal behavior. Scientists aren't sure why this is happening,
but one thing they do know is that the animal kingdom has been affected
by Y2K. Crazy creatures are everywhere as a result of, what scientists
believe to be, crossbreeding. This phenomena has peaked the interest of
the general public. Your local community, Parks & Recreation,
and the Town Planning Committee all agree that this phenomena could bring
a lot of money and value to your town. Therefore, plans are under
way to build a giant zoological theme park, called The Y2K Terrestrial
Zoo Theme Park, where these new creatures may be featured.
You
have been chosen to be a member of the Y2K
Zoo DesignTeam. This team is composed of Subject Matter Experts
(SME) in zoology, Instructional Designers (ID), Zoo Planners, and Public
Relations (PR) Specialists. Your team's first mission is to conduct
research so they may acquire enough information about these creatures and
their habitats. Next, you will use this information to develop an
enclosed animal habitat that will allow both the creatures to survive as
well as provide an educational, entertaining learning environment for the
general public. Finally, your team will pitch your zoo theme park
ideas before the Town Planning Committee and Parks & Recreation.
Good Luck!

Technology
Computers
by Jimmy and Justin
Mrs. Tamborrino was a great
influence in our technology work.
In Mrs. Tamborrino’s we learned many
important computer skills, from adding graphics, to making cool backgrounds.
During our busy year we did many projects. Each project we learned
at least one thing about computers. We used the following to make
our projects, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Word,
and Hyperstudio.
We did many projects in PowerPoint, such
as The Life and Times of Me, Poetry, Time for Kids, and our State Reports.
We also used Hyperstudio a lot, we made our Book Reviews, Poetry, Name
Poem, and we made American Revolution Timelines on Hyperstudio. Microsoft
Word was also a great part of our computer experience; we used Word to
type our Résumé for Exchange City, Famous Person Report,
and our State Report. Publisher also helped us a lot on our technology
projects; it helped us do brochures, and our business cards.
We learned a lot from
Mrs. Tamborrino and our peers. In Hyperstudio we learned to add graphics,
add text, and use buttons. In the beginning of the year we learned
a ton about how to use PowerPoint, we learned how to make effects, slide
shows, clip art, and adding backgrounds. Most of us have never even
used publisher before Mrs. Tamborrino taught us. But Mrs. Tamborrino,
the computer genius, taught us the most about HyperStudio.
In conclusion we wish you a great year with
Mrs. Tamborrino. And, we hope that you learn numerous pieces of computer
information with Mrs. Tamborrino.
