Science

back to Open House

This year our science program will consist of four major blocks: Plants, Populations and Ecosystems, The Solar System, and Energy and Machines.  Students will be actively involved in research projects, investigations, and presentations around these topics.  During Semester I we will be covering Populations and Ecosystems and Plants.  Much of what we learn during these units of study will integrate with our Bradford Woods Outdoor Education camping trip in October.  During Semester II we will be covering The Solar System and Energy and Machines.

As you may know, during the fall all the fifth graders will be camping at Bradford Woods for 2 1/2 days. This is an extraordinary hands-on experience for the students to learn about environmental science. We will be integrating our Plants and Populations and Ecosystems units with our Bradford Woods experiences.  More information will be shared later on this evening about Bradford Woods.

During the month of May, students will be learning about their own growth and development. As part of our Family Life unit, we will be inviting various guests from the Bloomington community such as leaders, OB/GYN doctors, and health care professionals to talk with the students about human growth and development.   Our Family Life curriculum materials are available in the office for your review.
