Statement of Philosophy

K-Club is a child-centered and hands-on enrichment program.  All children can build upon what they already know and that learning takes place when children are actively engaged in the process.

We believe that children possess different learning styles and that learning encompasses speaking, hearing, feeling, reading, writing, discovering and creating.  Children are individuals and will be treated as such in all K-Club programs.

We believe that children and adults learn together in classrooms and that children should be given choices as to how they will learn a specific skill. K-Club staff will create their curriculum to be child-centered and developmentally appropriate, under the National Association for Education of Young Children guidelines.

We have confidence that all students have a desire to learn and should be assisted in their discoveries not only by parents and teachers, but also by their peers, thus creating a coactive, cooperative environment.

To create a generation of problem-solvers, adults must have confidence that children want to live peacefully with their peers.  Children will be encouraged and assisted in working out their own conflicts, rather than always having an adult work out the conflict for them.

Children greatly benefit when the school and the parent are cooperating on the child's behalf.  Thus, it is important for the K-Club staff to actively communicate with the child's kindergarten teacher and parent and to have an environment where visitors are welcome.

Admission

K-Club serves kindergarten children who are residents of the Monroe County School District.  The program welcomes all kindergarten children to participate.  Enrollment is limited and is conducted on a first come, first served basis.

Enrollment is satisfied when the enrollment form and $30.00 registration fee are received in the Extended Day Office prior to entrance.  If a child cannot be admitted immediately because of full enrollment, he/she will be placed on a waiting list. We maintain a ratio of one (1) adult to ten (10) children in K-Club.
