Prepare for the GED (General Educational
Development) test under the direction of a certified adult education
teacher. We provide free classes and workbooks and have tutors who
can help you brush up on areas in which you need extra help.
We also have a school psychologist on our staff who can test for learning
differences. If you have a learning difference, she may be able to get
you accommodations to make taking the test less difficult.
We are here to help. We prepare our students to make sure they do not take
the test until they are ready, and we advise them to take a free practice test before they spend the money to take the actual GED
exam. |
|
- Testing
is offered weekly. Most weeks it is during the day, 8:30-1:30,
except for one week per month, when it is in the evening, 4:00-9:00.
All testing is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Tuesday tests include
Writing and Science; Wednesday tests include Math, Literature
and Social Studies.

|
- The
GED Test is made up of 5 sub-tests in the following areas: writing
skills, social studies, science, literature & the arts, and
mathematics. Upon successful completion of the test, the candidate
will receive a GED diploma issued by the state of Indiana.
|
- Candidates must
be age 17 or older and be a resident of Indiana for 30 days or
more.
|
- 17-year olds may
take the exam if they have written proof of an exit interview from
the school last attended, signed by the principal, and can show
written and signed proof of having passed a pre-GED test.
|
- The
Teen Learning Center offers classes for teens who have dropped
out of high school and want to get their GED. Call
to schedule an appointment at (812) 330-7731, ext. 1.
|
- All
candidates must preregister in person and prepay $60.00 (check, money
order, or exact cash) at the MCCSC Adult Education office.
They must present three (3)
pieces
of
valid
identification at the time of registration. One must be a photo
I.D., which should be either a valid Indiana picture ID, a
passport, or a matricular card with photo. Candidates must
show this photo ID both days of testing in order to be admitted.
If necessary, individual
sub-tests
can
be retaken
later
at a
cost of $15.00 each. A registered candidate
who misses a test can reschedule for a later date at a cost of
$5.00, although the $5 will be waived if he or she has a valid
proof of unavoidable absence, such as a doctor's excuse.
|
- Test
results are sent away to Indianapolis
to be scored. Scores are sent back to the MCCSC Adult Education
office in 6 to 8 weeks and are forwarded to our students by mail.
Students should keep the original scores in a safe place since
these are often required by potential employers and post-secondary
schools for admission. One free signed and stamped official copy
of the original scores is available at the student's request.
Additional official copies cost $5.00 each.
