Students and Parents:

Please Note: Information about homework, tests, projects and other assignments will be updated here as often as time allows. This page does not replace agenda books and planners as an organizational tool. Students, you are still expected to write assignments down in class as they are given!      Last updated March 9, 2010

Tips for success:

  • Always use your class folder for class papers. (Folder required for all classes.)
  • Write assignments in your agenda book.
  • Take advantage of extra credit when it is offered throughout the grading period.

Special Note for 7th grade Gold Team: Special scheduling at times creates longer class periods one day and skipped class periods the next day.  What this means is that the “next class period” may not be the next day, but 2 days later and may not be the same for everyone in the block.  If the due date is specific it will be noted.  If not, it will say “next class period”.

Information about OOPS SLIPS!!! Homework assignments are used to prepare students for a day’s lesson or lab, reinforce concepts taught in class, help students see the importance of science in their world, and to help teach responsibility. Some assignments cannot be turned in late because we go over the answers that day.  Sometimes an alternate assignment may be offered to make up the missing work.  Other times it earns a zero.  This is where an “OOPS” slip can really help.  What is an “OOPS” slip!? An “OOPS” slip is filled out by the student, signed by a parent, and turned in within 2 days of the missing assignment.  The assignment will then be excused and not count against the grade. Students are allowed to use 2 “OOPS” per marking period for daily homework assignments.  “OOPS” slips cannot be used on projects and most vocabulary assignments.

Introducing QOTW (QUIZ OF THE WEEK)!! Each week or so there will be a quiz over what we have done over the past 5-7 days.  This practice begins 3rd grading period and helps students stay on top of reviewing as they learn instead of waiting for the day before a big test to study! It also helps me know what their level of understanding is on introduced topics.

Current Unit: Chemical Reactions

Unit Project:  No large project – just a bunch of labs! Metals lab; Gumdrop Lab; Torching Metal; Fizz, Fizz, Fizz; Etc. . . .

Daily Class work and Homework:

1.     Chemistry Test Tuesday March 9, 2010 This will cover the entire unit on chemistry.  While information about subatomic particles and atomic structure will not be specifically tested, it will be necessary for students to have retained that information in order to understand concepts in this part of the unit.  There will be a formal class period for reviews on Monday, March 8th, but students should study before then so they know what they need help with for the review.

1.     Study for TEST TUESDAY 3/9/10
