The Bikes
We have constructed five solar bikes which we race at Neosho, Missouri in the USA Solar BikeRayce and Ogata-mura, Japan in the World Solar Bicycle Race. Each bike has four solar panels, totaling an area of x, and a front hub mount heinzmann electric motor which can go up to 54 mph at 48 volts and 40 mph at 36 volts. During the race in Neoho, the bikes are outfitted with six 12 volt 7 amp-hour lead-acid batteries which hold their own in a 100 km race. During the race in Japan, the bikes are outfitted with three or four 12 volt 5 amp-hour lead-acid batteries.

This year (2009), three of the five bikes were raced: "A Train" (top), "Major Tom" (second down), and "Sailor Moon" (third down). "A Train" was ridden by Eli Calkins, Ian Byers-Gamber, John Powers, and Bo Henderson, and received 3rd overall in Neosho and 5th overall in Japan. "Major Tom" was ridden by Aaron Stevens, Nathan Lohrman, and Michael Lukens, and received x in Neosho and x in Japan. "Sailor Moon" was ridden by Lindsey Roby, Amanda Burgoon, Irina Rakhimkulova, Jessica Stevens, Erin Brown, and Cindy Kvale, and received x in Neosho and x in Japan.

In 2008, four of the five bikes were raced in Neosho: "The Grey Bike" (top), "The Red Bike" (second down), "The Blue Bike" (third down), and "The Recumbent" (last down). "The Grey Bike" was ridden by Steven VanKooten, blahblah, blahblah, and blahblah.
