Art & Artists is a semester long elective at JCMS. Art & Artists grade 7 is not a pre-requisite. Students meet every day for the year. The curriculum for grade 8 covers American art from the Colonial Period somewhat chronologically, up through contemporary styles in America. Students learn about famous artists and styles of art through personal expression and interpretation of working artists. Each spring, students are "awarded" a simulated scholarship and they pursue exploration of potential art careers . Students also have an opportunity to study the popular arts of comics, animation and crafts.

The first unit this year was called, "WHO AM I AND WHERE HAVE I BEEN?" The first project was a drawing of their past summer vacation. Afterwards, students were exposed to art in boxes, and designed a GAME.  Fridays this year we have free choice day where students may work individually in their sketchbooks or they may play the games they designed.
