Outlook Express 5 for Macintosh

Quick Setup Guide

These instructions are the barest-bones of what you'll need to configure Outlook Express v5 for the Macintosh for use here at MCCSC. Since they're so basic, they won't cover every possible setting or option, just what you need to get the software configured for basic use.

1. Start Outlook Express

2. From the Tools menu, select Accounts

3. The Accounts Window appears. Click the New button in the upper left hand corner.

4. The Account Setup Assistant may appear. If it does, click the Configure Account Manually button in the lower left hand corner. If it doesn't, skip down to step 5.

5. The New Account window will appear. In the center of the box there will be a selection labelled Account Type: Click that menu and select IMAP. The picture below shows the window as it should be set.

6. Click OK.

7. A new box labelled "Edit Account" appears. Fill in the boxes as indicated by the graphic below. Information in lower case is to be copied exactly. Information in upper case is to be replaced with the actual value.

For example:
YOUR FIRST NAME should be replaced with your first name.

Note: There are 2 checkboxes/settings in the above window:

- “Include this account . . .”
- “Save password”

The IS Department recommends that you leave both of these settings as they appear above for convenience and security’s sake.

8. Click OK

9. Now the Accounts window re-appears, with your new account listed (listed below as “Demo Account”). Close the Accounts window.

10. Once the Accounts window is closed, you’ll see the new account you created appear in the list on the left-hand side of the screen (listed below as “DemoAccount”). Click once on your new account to start the Login process.

11. Outlook will ask you for your e-mail password.

Enter your password, and click OK

12. Once you’re logged in, the list at left will change to look like the graphic below:

To see your e-mail messages, click once on the INBOX icon located below the icon for you account, not the one at the top of the list.

If you have trouble, contact your building's computer coordinator or Carl Zager for assistance.
