GUIDE

________________________________________________________________________________

Step 1 Location

Absolute

Find the approximate northern & southern latitudes of your area; find

the eastern & western longitudes of your area; write these on your form.

relative

Next, describe where your area is in relation to a) oceans; b) other land

areas; and c) on the globe.

Step 2 Place

Write a paragraph that gives a general description of the area. This should

include landforms, climate, vegetation regions, the types of animal life, and

the types of people found there.

Step 3 Interaction

This step is more difficult. First, brainstorm as many types of interaction as you can. Have someone

in the group make a list. Next, see how many of these apply to your area. Finally, choose the three

your group feels are most important to your area and describe them on the form.

HINT: consider how the people use the land for food, work, and recreation.

Step 4 Movement

Consider two questions in this area:

1. How has the land helped and hindered movement?

2. With which other areas has this area traded, interacted, settled?

List your answers on the form.

Step 5 Region

Within your group, brainstorm the types of regions your area may

contain. Use geographic features, vegetation regions, and cultural

areas as your guide.

Next, consider what larger regions to which your area may belong.

List all regions on your form.

Step 6 PowerPoint

Now you are ready to create your powerpoint. You should have a visual

representation of your area as the title frame. You should list the nations

contained in this area in the second slide. You should then create at least

one slide for each of the other four themes of geography. Be sure to

include pictures to highlight these themes.

Step 7 Oral presentation

Each member of the group is expected to participate in the oral presentation. Your group will give

a brief overview of each of the 5 geographic themes as they relate to your area. you may use the

powerpoint, the form, and any other aids to help in your presentation.
