| Platinum was discovered in South America in 1735 by Antonio de Ulloa. Its symbol on the periodic table of elements is Pt.
Atomic Number: 78 Atomic Weight: 195.078 Melting Point: 1770 degrees C It is the most valued of the precious metals group. Platinum is much more durable than the other precious metals and is not damaged by chlorine, bleach, or detergents. The dollar worth of platinum is $360/troy oz as compared to golds value of $290/troy oz. Platinum is completely hypoalergenic. If you had 1 gram of platinum you could stretch it to a length of 1 and 1/4 miles...though why you'd want to do this I don't know... |
