Information for Freshmen Football Parents
The Bloomington High School North 12th Man Club welcomes you and your son to North High School. We have put together some information we hope will be helpful to you and your family during this freshman football season.
Northside Football Listserv – Stay informed of Cougar football news and events by subscribing to the BHSN 12th Man Club listserv. Instructions for subscribing can be found at the following MCCSC site:
http://maillist.mccsc.edu/mailman/listinfo/nor12list
BHSN 12th Man Club Website – The above listserv is used primarily to disseminate to parents timely Cougar football announcements. The 12th Man Club’s website, on the other hand, provides information concerning club events, player calendars, season photos, etc. You can find this information at:
www.mccsc.edu/~nor12man/index.html
Game Day Meals – Our club has contracted with Heavenly Ham to provide away game meals for each player (Columbus North, Franklin Central). These reasonably priced meals ($12.50 total) are paid for by each family, and include a turkey or ham sandwich, bag of chips, cookie and bottled water. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. Please call M’Lissa Baye @ 336-6325 for information. Checks are made payable to: BHSN 12th Man Club and will be collected by your class representative. In the past, the freshman team has been fed before their games. Players remain at school under the supervision of their coaches and eat their meals in the cafeteria.
Thursday Dinners – An important part of building team tradition and camaraderie is the Thursday Evening Team Dinners. These dinners occur in the school cafeteria at 5:30 after Thursday practice for all players and coaches (Varsity, JV, and Freshmen). Parent volunteers assist in serving and clean up. Dates for the freshman class are Sept. 6, Oct. 4, and Nov 1 (sectional play-off). Please contact Jamie Pratt, as the freshman class representative, if you are willing to assist with this team dinner. Dinner usually concludes around 6:15. These meals are paid for by our 12th Man Club.
Live-In Camp – The Live-in Camp from August 1 – 4 involves only the Varsity and JV players. Freshmen have their normal practices during the day, but are not participants in the overnight camp.
Coach Contact – For questions regarding practice times, bus times, game day procedures, etc. contact Coach John Butler: jbutler@mccsc.edu or 825-6383 (H) or 325-7978 (C).
Cougar Support – As your son’s biggest fan and advocate, show your support for his program by becoming involved in the Bloomington North 12th Man Club. Monthly meetings are normally held the first Wednesday of the month. Next meeting is Wednesday, August 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the North High School Large Group Room.
Cougar Apparel – Cougar football apparel will be available through the 12th Man Club by placing and submitting orders to Don Bowman and committee chairpersons. Order forms will be available at Cougar football events and 12th Man Club meetings.
Volunteer Opportunity at Fair – As a fundraising endeavor, players and parents help to staff a gate at the Monroe County Fair. Four-hour shifts are still available for your participation. Please call Barba Baer 876-3462 to help out.
Midnight Madness – A new tradition begun by Coach Bless where the first two-a-day practice of the new football season begins just after midnight, at 12:01 a.m. July 30. (This is Sunday night, not Monday night.) Because of the field turf installation at North, this year’s MM will take place at the Mellencamp Pavilion at IU. Freshmen are invited to participate and will assemble at IU with the Varsity and JV squads for team meetings at 10:30 p.m. prior to the start of the 12:01 a.m. practice.
Northside Football Night – A family cook-out and pitch-in dinner along with team scrimmages at 6:00 p.m. August 4 on the practice fields behind the stadium. Bring lawn chairs or blankets.
Gold Card Blitz – All North football players will be selling Gold Card discount cards as their fundraiser for the football program. The final selling blitz will take place after practice on August 9 for an hour or two. Parent volunteers will drive groups of freshman players to various neighborhoods. Players will then reconvene and turn in cards and monies at the Pool Party to be held at the Bloomington Country Club. Pizza and desserts will be served.
Picture Day – At the present time, Picture Day is scheduled for August 10. Coaches will provide further information.
