8th Grade Curriculum
Overview
The
8th grade emphasis is on the physical sciences.
We
start the year by studying all forms of waves
in the Sound and Light textbook. This
includes a musical instrument project, an astronomy research paper and the
study of seismology.
Then
we move on to a more traditional study of forces
and motion in the Motion, Forces and Energy textbook. During this time we will apply math skills
because math is the language of science.
Our largest project is building roller coasters.
During
the Blue Team mock trial, we will take time to explore forensic science.
In
the spring we will study chemistry
using Chemical Building Blocks and Chemical Interactions textbooks. We will emphasis the structure of the
periodic table and lab explorations.
Each student will explore the chemistry of a common substance of their
choosing.
