Educational Background

I have been teaching FACS at Tri-North Middle School in Bloomington, IN, since 1995. Prior teaching experiences were at Batchelor Middle School in Bloomington, IN and Glenwood Elementary School in Evansville, IN. I received a B.S. degree in Family and Consumer Sciences from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN in 1981. I have an Endorsement in Special Education (Learning Disabilities) from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.

Curriculum

Seventh Grade

*FACS-Six weeks rotational exploratory classes are required for every student in the 7th grade. During the six week in FACS students are taught some basic life skills such as sewing on a button, mending a ripped seam, basic measuring skills and recipe reading, food sanitation, kitchen safety, and nutrition. Students make a stuffed sewing project in class that is theirs to keep and participate in basic food labs where team work is a must.

*HEALTH-Six weeks rotational exploratory classes are required for every student in the 7th grade. During the six weeksstudents will be focusing on the areas of mental, social and family health. The textbook Totally Awesome Health is used in class. We will also cover a Life Skills Training II workbook that is a part of all MCCSC middle and elementary school health programs.

*THAT'S LIFE-This semester long elective course includes multiple areas of FACS such as foods and nutrition, caring for clothing, basic sewing machine instuction, babysitting skills, consumer information and career exploration.

Eighth Grade

*FACS I-This semester long elective course includes such areas as foods and nutrition, housing and interior design and clothing care and construction. Project based activities are included in this fun-filled course.

*FACS II-This semester long elective course is offered second semester. A pre-requisite of FACS I is desired but no required. Students explore further into the multiple areas of FACS plus foreign foods, crafts and much, much more.
