Home Ways You Can Serve Being a Better Citizen
"Service" has many different meanings. It can mean a church service, military service, or even a set of dishes or utensils. But when I hear the word "service", the first thing that comes to my mind is helping other people. To me, service is giving money to the poor, serving at the Community Kitchen, helping an elderly person with something that needs to be done, or basically just helping someone with something he or she needs help. The people in the military serve by keeping our country safe from people who want to do it harm. The people who choose to be in the military are very brave and are rightfully thanked for their service.

Martin Luther King, Jr. served his community and nation in many ways. He lead many peaceful marches and boycotts in hopes that African-Americans would someday truly be free. He served through his church by bringing the word of God to the people. That alone is a great way to serve. And although he was arrested nearly thirty times, he never gave up his belief that all men are created equal and nobody should be treated differently because of the color of his or her skin. If there was one person that had truly dedicated his life to serving others, it was without a doubt Martin Luther King, Jr.
