Get To Know Mrs. Bowman

I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania.  I came to Indiana to attend college, and have earned degrees in biology from Earlham College (B.A.) and Indiana University (Ph. D.).  I live in Unionville with my husband (also a teacher in MCCSC) and two children.  We have two Cardigan Welsh Corgi dogs, two cats, five snakes, two fish, and numerous chickens.   This is my fourth year of teaching at Tri-North.

Here are some things that interest me!

I love watching birds, and I am a member of the Sassafras Audubon Society

I am interested in nature and alternative energy sources.  Check out the Cope Environmental Center in Centerville, Indiana!

I enjoy hiking in Indiana State Parks and Nature Preserves.  How well do you know your native Indiana plants and wildflowers?

I am learning how to fly fish and have started to learn to tie my own fishing flies as well.  I am not very good yet, but I keep on trying!

I have kept snakes as pets for almost 20 years, and will have two of my corn snakes as classroom pets again this year.  The seventh graders always get to name the snakes; the names so far have always been creative, and always related to food (if you have ever seen how much a seventh grader can eat, you understand why!).  These featured articles at kingsnake.com are a great place to learn about some of my favorite species.

I enjoy training and showing my dogs, and have participated in animal-assisted activities and pet therapy through VIPaws in Bloomington.

I am a member of the National Science Teachers Association and the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers.
