Community Connections Assignment Sheet  2005-2006

This is an ongoing homework assignment for the 2005-06 school year . Place all  assignments in the basket marked "community connections" on my table You  SHOULD complete these assignments BEFORE the due date. The class late work policy applies.

 

Guidelines: For each grading period, do one activity from the grid on the back of this page for 30 points (100%). Do two activities for 35 points(116%). Do 3 activities for 40 points(134%). The final grade is based on 30 points possible.  Each activity may only be done once for the year so cross them off the grid upon completion of each activity. Assignments chosen will be graded, so do your best work!  Notice that the assignment is due at THE END of each grading period. It will be 5 points off for each day it is late and receive a zero if turned in after grades for that six weeks  have already been submitted. To receive full credit, you must follow all instructions. Assignments must be legible.

 

 

Due dates/ deadlines are :

1st six weeks= September 28 and 29 (on your day in class)

2nd six weeks = November 16 and 17

3rd six weeks= January 5 and 6

4th six weeks= February 22 and 23

5th six weeks= April 12 and 13

6th six weeks= May 31 and June 1

 

 

Read a Spanish children’s book to an audiance of children (at library, church, school, home) and teach children some of the vocabulary. Write a summary of your experience and include pictures/ photos of the event.

Bring in an article

about the Spanish speaking  world and explain it

to the class. Explain in terms of: who, what, where, why, &what significance it has to your life or life in the US.

 

 

Create a song (Spanish

Or English) to a popular tune

about Spanish Vocab or  grammar

& teach it to the class.

 

 Speak Spanish  with a family member for at least 15 minutes. Write a l-page summary of your conversation. (in English ) Have the family member sign your paper.

 

Leave me a

voice mail

message in

Spanish. Don’t forget

To include your name!

Write an explanation of how knowing Spanish enabled you to help someone else or to understand something others did not.      

 

Volunteer to help out with the hispanic  community in Bloomington or elsewhere. Show proof of your participation and write a reflective summary of your experience.

Feed your family Spanish or Mexican cuisine! Take pictures

And include the recipe(s). and a written summary of your experience.

Tutor someone else in Spanish  several times and write a 1-page reflection.

Form and lead a

study group for

your Spanish final Exam. Prepare a report of the event including, who participated, date, time, place, what you covered and obtain an adult signature as a witness.

Create a

bulletin board display with

a Spanish theme Include all photos/pictures, lettering and information and bibliography. Make it look professional- not thrown together. .

Interview a native speaker

on tape and write a summary.

Watch an Hispanic film

Sing or play for the class a holiday song from a Spanish speaking culture during month of that holiday. Explain its’ significance to the class and/or teach the class the lyrics.

Sing a song in

Spanish or play a Spanish song (on an instrument) for the

class (you may do this with a Friend)

 Travel to a Spanish speaking area and send me a postcard written in Spanish! (must still reach me by the due date)

Create an awesome set of flashcards (vocab from one whole chapter of your book) . They must be at least 3x5 in size (could be bigger), must be legible, colorful and include pictures (or  some type of visual cue)

 

 

Find and describe 10

 good websites related to Spanish.

State the site address, rate it and give a brief synopsis of the contents of the site (in your own words)

Create a board game

for review of a Spanish concept(s) or as

a Spanish trivia game.

 

 

Attend a performance (concert, theater production, ballet, etc.) or museum exhibition that is related to Spanish . I will highlight as many of these as I can throughout the year. Include a program or ticket stub from the event along with your summary and reaction.

 

Find a want ad in the news-

paper or internet which

requires the ability to

speak a foreign language and explain what the other job requirements include and why use of the other language is important.

Go to a Spanish Club event! .

me .  Schedule a time with me and expect that I will ask you questions.

Tell me about the artist

Make a food or drink item for the rest of the class. Just a small taste for everyone is fme. Research the food and the country it is from. Write a  small  report to tell us why this dish is important  there  and include the recipe. You will make a brief oral presentation to the class before serving the food. All food presentations must be given on the same day. I will let you know the dates. (It must be a food/drink item from a Spanish speaking country  and non-alcoholic)

 

Bring in at least 10 items

with Spanish on their

Packaging and schedule a time to present. Be prepared to translate some of the labels upon request.

pal or e-pal twice and get an answer.

Visit La Charreada, La Torre, El Norteno, Nuevo Mexico or another authentic Mexican restaurant (not Taco Bell!).  Order in Spanish and write a summary of your experience(and  get the owner’s signature to prove you were there)  Summary:
