Dr. King was a man who loved people and cared about everyone no matter what they said or did. He believed that everyone should have equal rights. He was a black American and civil rights leader. A civil rights leader is someone who makes sure all people are treated fairly. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born with the name Michael Luther King. He graduated from Morehouse College in 1948. In December if 1955 he received a doctorate degree in theology. Dr. King was married to Coretta Scott in 1953. She passed away January 31, 2006. She was 78 years old. In 1959 Dr. King spent time in India studying Gandhi’s techniques of nonviolent protest. Yolanda, Martin III, Dexter, and Bernice are Dr. and Mrs. King’s children. Martin Luther King, Jr. had over 200.000 civil right’s supporters. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is one of the most liked people in American history. He was a pastor. In 1957 he was elected the president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Dr, King marched in Washington for jobs and freedom on August 28, 1963. On April 4th, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee while standing on the balcony outside his motel room, Dr. King was shot and killed. He was 39 years old. His grave is surrounded by water in Atlanta, Georgia. |
