In 1994 the Monroe County Community School Corporation had roaches crawling
out of desks, and some of our students and staff were missing school on
days after our exterminators sprayed the classrooms. In response, our
school system, Indiana University, School of Public and Environmental
Affairs and the Purdue University, Department of Entomology developed
a partnership to solve this problem. We reduced pesticides by 90%, pests
by 90% and found that it didn't cost us anymore to do it the right way.
In the years since our adoption of IPM, and with the help of the USEPA
Office of Pesticide Programs we and our partners in Indiana, Alabama,
Arizona, California the Navajo Nation and Nevada have developed the "Monroe
IPM Model". It has duplicated our success in schools around the United
States.
In building this web-site we are offering our experience and tools to
you because "It is the right thing to do" for our children and our planet.
