We discussed this term and how it related to the Great Depression. The class also disused standard of living and how it can easily be affected by the business cycle. We discussed how this is the first time since the Great Depression that Americans actually spent more than they saved; however, numerous economist have stated that Americans have poured their savings in to their homes and therefore actually did save but this was not counted by most. I explained to the students that if this is the case, if Americans did put the majority of their money into their homes, a great many Americans have now lost that saving due to a decrease in valuations of home prices.
