Carmel                                                    Polly

Classroom guinea pigs, Carmel & Polly, teach the kids animal responisbililty as
they tend for them daily and then hold them each afternoon. The girls love the attention and they entertain the kids by purring and cooing their way through a lap cuddle.

A couple of years ago the girls surprised us all with 7 baby guinea pigs! Polly had 4 babies, and Carmel had 3. I began the holiday break with 2 guinea pigs, and finished the break with 9! They had the help of a visiting guinea pig, Pumpkin, who became a celebrity daddy. Just look below at the awesome babies. Did you know that guinea pig babies are born with all their hair, their eyes open, and they are walking and running within minutes of their birth? Wild, isn't it.

In both of these pictures the babies are only a few days old. My cat was a little curious about all the new commotion going on, so she had to take a peek.

Sadly, on January 6th, 2002, Carmel, the best guinea pig in the world died. She was 3 1/2 years old. But, to help us get through our loss we found Simon. What a sight to see he is. I will give everyone a peek soon. Stay tuned...
