Young Hoosier Book Award
HomePage
for Grades 6-8
The Young Hoosier book Award program stimulates reading among students of all ages throughout the state of Indiana. The program has three award categories, including: kindergarten through third grade (picture books), fourth grade through sixth grade, and sixth grade through eighth grade. Books are selected from twenty titles that have been written within the last five years. Students vote by May 1st for their favorite book after reading at least five from twenty nominees.
The program began during the 1974-1975 school year with only one category and E.B. White's Trumpet of the Swan was chosen as the first winner by 4,681 students. Today, there are over 73,000 students involved in the program.
