Diverse Communities can have various and numerous traits; it is not limited to the color of people skin. People of different races, ethnicities, gender, and orientation living together in a successful community, different religious groups, and diverse shops all play a vital role in successfully maintaining a diverse community. It is important, almost crucial, to interact with those different than you. Exploring and initiating conversation with those different than you can end in a new look at the similarities between people of different races.

Bloomington, unlike many similar sized Midwestern cities, is very diverse, both in people and in surroundings. Throughout the town of Bloomington, you can find:

§        The Quaker Meeting House

§        The First United Methodist Church

§        The Baptist Church

§        St. Charles Catholic Church

§        The Unitarian Universalist Church

§        Lutheran Churches

§        The Tibetan Cultural Center

In addition, Bloomington offers a wide spectrum of restaurants from many cultures. Down town, you can find Italian Pizza Parlors, Indian and Afgan Cuisine, Mediterranean Restaurants, as well as the Snow Lion which serves traditional Tibetan Food. You also have the option to enjoy Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, and of course American food.

Text Box: --Playing a part in Diversity--
Helping diversity thrive in your community can be very simple. Individuals of any age can play a part, whether big or small. Young children could assist their parents, grandparents, neighbors, or others plant various types of flowers or plants in the community. In addition, you and your family could try one of the ethnic restaurants in your community to help these restaurants stay in business. Although it may seem too much to ask, helping diversity thrive is as simple as helping a child make a sandwich; you should give it a try.
