What does it mean to live in a diverse community?
"Difference of opinion is helpful in religion.”- Thomas Jefferson

The definition of diversity is a society of different ethical and cultural differences. A community is an “interacting population of various kinds of individuals (as species) in a common location” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary.)

Imagine your community. Now imagine if your community looked exactly the same; the same hair color, the same skin color, and the same race. How would you feel?
In my opinion, diversity can be best explained as a fruit smoothie. To make your smoothie, you need a variety of ingredients, not just one. Imagine if a smoothie just had strawberries, and no milk, or other fruit. It equals a very plain smoothie.

Dr. King fought for the rights of African Americans, but I think he was also fighting for the rights for diversity. He made us realize that all men (and women) were equal, regardless of their race, skin color, and gender. In his “I have a dream” speech, he said, “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

What does it mean to live in a diverse community?
Diversity is a group of many different things; gender, race, religion, and ethnicity. So if a community had a variety of all those different things, it would be a very colorful place. (This can be taken literally and not literally.) I believe that living in a diverse place and the people living together harmoniously as a community is a thing that Dr. King dreamed and fought for.

Living in a diverse community also means that other people can see and learn about different cultures. Then they will understand the cultures and see why certain people do certain things. Also, we will live peacefully as a community.
