Reverend Butler
![]()
We interviewed Reverend Butler from the Second Baptist Church in Bloomington, Indiana. Reverend Butler was a good friend of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and he was willing to talk to us about his experiences during the Civil Rights Movement. We are very grateful for getting a chance to talk with such a man.
These are some of the memorable quotes from our interview with Rev. Butler. Listen carefully to Rev. Butler's words. The interview was done by Allen S, Jake H, and Mike L.
"Realize ever individual [that] God has made, deserves respect. In spite of where they come from, how they behave, what not. They still deserve respect."
"Yes, science has made our world a neighborhood. But we, the people have failed to make it a brotherhood."
"I could not live in the dormitory because I'm Black. I couldn't swim in the swimming pool because I'm Black. I couldn't go to the motion picture theatres except on weekends and I had to sit upstairs because I'm Black. I couldn't eat in the restaurants in the city of Bloomington because I'm Black."
