American Heroes: Jesse Owen

His Contributions To America

Jesse Owens has done many amazing things in his life which shows his atheltic abilty and his leadership skills. First while at high school, he was named high school president. Even though only five percent of the school had been black.

In 1936, Jesse Owens made the USA Olympic team. The Olympics were to be held in Germany. 1936 was the years in which Germany had made racial slurs about Blacks, Jews, Gays, and many other racial groups.

 

Jesse Owens ran his first race in the 100 dash breaking the record at 10.7 seconds. Soon enough Jesse broke the record again in 10.2 seconds. Germany refused to give him the record. They said he was aided by the wind.

Soon enough, Hitler even started to salute Jesse and his endeavors. He became a world wide hero within one week. All of the German children wanted his autograph even though they were told that blacks were not ideal humans.

 

With out Jesse Owens, America would not be what it is right now. Jesse Owens helped change Nazi race relations in the 1936 Olympic games. He diversed the American society by getting his peers of all races to respect him and treat him with dignity. For example, during the Olympic games the Nazis even respected him for amazing athletic ability.
