Thurgood Marshall: Supreme Court Justice

Why is Thurgood Marshall an American to take pride in?

Thurgood Marshall is an American to take pride in for many reasons. First of all, he stood up for what he believed in and always tried to make the world a better place. He followed in Martin Luther King's footsteps and strived for everyone to be treated as an equal, no matter what their race, sex, beliefs, or religion was. He demonstrated that people of all races have the ability to be smart and succeed, and should not be held back by what other people think. He showed the American spirit by helping those who needed help, and he used his talents in the field of law to give African Americans an equal part in society. As a great American, he risked his reputation to help others. Marshall wanted to make the words "Equal Justice Under Law" a reality for all people. Because of his achievements, courtesy towards others, and integrity, Thurgood Marshall, like Martin Luther King, Jr., is a great example of what an American should be.

The American spirit is represented by freedom, equality regarding race and religion, diversity, and many other aspects that help America be a place where all kinds of people can live in harmony. Thurgood Marshall believed in all these things and fought for them in court. If someone was being denied their rights, he would stand up for them, and make sure they were treated justly. Thurgood Marshall had a lot of American spirit, and therefore was a great American that we should all look up to.
