I decided to do this web page because after reading the book The Ear the Eye and The Arm, I wanted to learn more about Zimbabwe. The book's setting was in Zimbabwe and it told a lot about the country and how it could be in the future. I wanted to find out what Zimbabwe was really like today in this time.

Interesting Facts-

Life expectancy is only 40 because of AIDS.
The capital of Zimbabwe is Harare.
The official language they speak is English.
The animals are considered to be exotic.
They play many sports in Zimbabwe such as football, cricket and tennis.
The population was about 12,514,000 in the year 2000.
You have to have your headlights in your car on between the time of 5:30pm to 5:30am.

Animals of Zimbabwe

	Hippopotamus- Usually near water and come up on land at night time.
	Cheetah- The fastest land mammal ever. Can reach speeds up to 150 km/h.
	Jackals- Similar to the fox in the United States.
	African Elephant- One of the largest animals in Zimbabwe. They weigh over 4,000 pounds.
	Giraffe- Is the tallest animal in Africa. It has a very long neck that can reach the top of trees.
	Lion- It spends a lot of time hunting and is usually in packs up to 30.

Sports/Music

Sports are popular in Zimbabwe. People play and watch them. They play sports such as football, golf, tennis and cricket. They have people who are very skilled in all those sports. They also have spectator sports to go and see.

Music in Zimbabwe has changed over the years for different sounds. Some of the instruments include:

~Mbira- (a thumb piano) They come in different types and can be played with more than just the thumb.

~Marimba- (a wood xylophone) They come in four sizes, the bass baritone alto and soprano.

~Makwa (wooden clappers)

~Chizambi- ( string instrument) are extremely rare these days in Zimbabwe.

These are just some of the neat instruments they play in Zimbabwe.

~They speak English, Shona, and Ndebele. English is the official language in Zimbabwe but only 2% speak it as their first language.

A type of Zimbabwe bird is on the star of the Zimbabwe flag.

Climate

Zimbabwe is in the tropics mostly, but its not really hot. In the winter the temperatures are nice with warm days and clear nights. The summer is when Zimbabwe gets most of its rain. But the climate is nice and the rain in the summer takes away the humidity. Some of the trees change color in the winter. There is red and yellow in the mopane trees.
