Information Literacy
Standard 1: The
student who is information literate accesses information
efficiently and effectively.
1. Uses online catalog to locate
items in local library.
2. Uses specific print and electronic
reference resources.
3. Uses and interprets graphic
sources for information.
4. Applies knowledge of online search
techniques.
Standard 2: The
student who is information literate evaluates information
critically and competently.
1. Distinguishes between and uses
primary and secondary sources.
2. Evaluates information resources
for accuracy, currency, and appropriateness.
3. Interprets information in
periodical indexes.
Standard 3: The
student who is information literate uses information accurately
and creatively.
1. Writes full bibliographic
information for different types of resources.
2. Follows copyright and fair use
guidelines.
3. Selects an appropriate
organizational style for presenting information.
Independent Learning
Standard 4: The
student who is an independent learner is information literate and
pursues information related to personal interests.
1. Seeks information about aspects of
personal interest or well-being.
2. Uses the library resources
independently.
3. Develops, and evaluates
information products and solutions related to personal interests.
Standard 5: The
student who is an independent learner is information literate
and appreciates literature and other creative expressions
of information.
1. Participates in Young Hoosier Book
Award promotion.
2. Reads independently according to
personal interests.
3. Explains and discusses various
genres, films, or plays.
Standard 6: The
student who is an independent learner is information literate and
strives for excellence in information seeking and knowledge
generation.
1. Evaluates information before
selection and use.
2. Assess each step of the
information-seeking process related to a specific information
problem and assess the result.
3. Explains strategies for revising,
improving, and updating work.
Social Responsibility
Standard 7: The
student who contributes positively to the learning community
and and to society is information literate and recognizes
the importance of information to a democratic society.
1. Identifies several appropriate sources
for resolving an information problem or question.
2. Explains the importance of equitable
access to information for all students.
Standard 8: The
student who contributes positively to the learning community and
to society is information literate and practices ethical behavior
in regard to information and information technology.
1. Respects equipment, software, and
materials and uses them responsibly.
2. Defines and analyzes respect for
intellectual property rights.
3. Defines and analyzes the principles of
intellectual freedom.
Standard 9: The
student who contributes positively to the learning community and
to society is information literate and participates effectively
in groups to pursue and generate information.
1. Contributes to group activities by
sharing information with others.
2. Helps organize and integrate the
contributions of all group members.
3. Collaborates with others to create
information products.
